I really can't believe we have a Cricket thread but not Hockey - but really, might just be a pacinoyes thing I guess........ maybe one day some girl will join the board and I'll have someone to talk to on here about it and who knows we could get married and stuff! Um. Anyway.......starting one .......

Just came to check and see if there was an NHL thread here. Are we the only hockey fans here?? It's the only sport I actively watch and enjoy watching (I used to play it as well), so shame there isn't more love here.
Anyway, I came to say the playoffs have been exciting, but this match-up between Tampa Bay and Dallas is gonna be a snooze. New York Islanders were maybe the most interesting team in play in this post-season, but I guess they drew the short straw playing against Tampa who seems hell-bent on winning this whole thing after their flop last season.

Yeah, I was pulling for the Islanders too....Tampa Bay is just so deep I mean they have a bunch of guys who can score even outside of their 2 big star players, defense is solid and a goalie that is just missing that Cup ......I don't see how Dallas wins this unless they win a lot of ugly games and Tampa Bay tenses up which they have a history of.....too much firepower on paper anyway.....on the other hand this franchise has been snakebit in the Stamkos era......and in the Cooper coaching era too.....

pacinoyesI agree. Granted, I thought for sure Dallas was toast against Calgary but came back to win it in the last stretch, and same with Colorado having Nathan MacKinnon I thought for sure they were done for in that Game 7, but they're like cockroaches - they just can't seem to roll over and die haha. So I'm not counting them out (Khudobin has been incredible for them too and would be my pick for the Conn Smythe if they win), but on paper Tampa Bay should absolutely cream them.

Well congratulations to the Lightning who take it in 6........and congratulations to MAR for having a busy NHL thread after only 4 years? It's kind of interesting that that last few cup winners have been at least a little overdue too - Caps, Blues, Lightning, which maybe means you could pencil in Las Vegas next year I guess!

Anywho, pretty excited that the Wild have a potential superstar with Kaprisov. Seems to be worth the five year wait. For too long has it been a large group of 2nd and 3rd line guys playing up and down the lineup, it makes for an average to good team, which they've been for as long as I can remember, never atrocious and never having Cup asperations.

Not big on hockey but another Leafs-Habs series after all these years is very exciting. Up there with Yankees-Red Sox as the best rivalry in North American sports. Would be great to see the Leafs make a run with them being down for so long.

Can't say I saw a 1-0 game - a shorthanded goal at that - to decide the Lightning-Islanders series ..........Lightning trying to become only the 2nd team to repeat since 2000 ........but of course that depends on which Lightning show up....... Thoughts on Canadiens-Lightning Cup final? Kucherov's health a big "if" for the Lightning .....

Would be cool to see a Canadian team win again since it's been so long.... but if Tampa Bay repeats then the superstitious part of me won't be able to shake the feeling that Tom Brady will win another ring next year....

Hmmmmmmmm........ Already, the Lightning are making marks all over the NHL history books over the past two pandemic-altered seasons. They can win two Stanley Cups in a nine-month span (previously, the shortest span between two championships by one team is 358 days, set by the Canadiens in 1968 and 1969). Meanwhile, Hedman became the first player in league history to score a goal in all 12 calendar months. www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/31754041/lightning-cusp-rare-stanley-cup-sweep-work-do-game-4

Man you just feel Tampa coming in waves and if they can get one passed Price then they can get 4 ........a Montreal first goal would really deflate them.......right now the Lightning look like wolves at the door

We have a separate thread on Connor McDavid but he is really turning it on right now in the Playoffs - Gretzky level: * Prior to this year he had 11 goals and 11 assists in the playoffs - 21 games with 22 points. * This year in 10 games, he has 6 goals and 17 assists for 23 points. Really hope he he can keep this up ......rooting for him and a Cup for him .......every time he goes on the ice it's something historic.......or at least something incredible

Anybody into it on MAR or is this thread doomed to wallow in obscurity again? Um....... NY Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and perennial bad-asses Tampa Bay Lightning are the final 4.......I'm on team Connor McDavid myself......
