Nicole Kidman.
Easily.
Moulin Rouge, The Hours, Cold Mountain, Dogville, Birth, The Others, Margot At The Wedding.
Superb body of work that decade.
She was even doing interesting work in lesser films or duds like Birthday Girl, The Golden Compass and Australia.

Hmmm...I would have voted for Meryl but to my 'big surprise', she's missing in a BROAD poll (with 28 picks and some "very questionable" names) where she should be an obvious candidate.

She's not my vote, but objectively speaking, how the fuck can Streep be missing? Yeah , especially in such a BROAD poll. I mean if it was a tiny poll of 5-7 names, I would have understood (she's not a no brainer winner here, actually no one is imo) but 28 without mentioning the iconic actress who played Susan Orlean, Clarissa Vaughan, Miranda Priestly, 17 characters in Angels in America and so on ? Nah. Ok, I stop it here but yeah Queen Meryl should have been in the choice.

so we're just going to ignore Witherspoon and Weisz? From this list Kidman quite easily. Her 2000s run was flawless. And I haven't even seen Dogville yet.

I was just going by the names listed but I would have considered Streep for the win had she been on the list. Very close with Blanchett.

Just saying "flawless" might be overdoing it here a bit - she had highs too but ............also: Bewitched, Stepford Wives, Golden Compass, Nine, The Invasion, Fur (Diane Arbus); Human Stain ...........I mean I could put a couple more on top of those but that's at least 7 ......she was more hit or miss tbh....though in some ways so was my pick

I think one of the excellent things about Kidman we found out in the 2000's was how hard she was willing to work to try and save poor movies. Things like Bewitched, The Human Stain, The Golden Compass weren't "good" movies per se, but she was working her a$$ off in all of them to make them watchable. It somewhat explains her longevity and how easily she can brush off duds these days like The Goldfinch. She is great in great films, but is very often the best thing about her worst films.

Maggie Cheung for the first half of the decade, Tilda Swinton for the other half. Kidman's in the running too, she has 4-5 perfs I love.

It's a tough question... Kidman is a good choice, I guess. I'm not much of a fan of her 2001 output, but she deserved noms for The Hours, Dogville and Birth.
Jennifer Connelly had a pretty great run from 2000-2003 with Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind and House of Sand and Fog. She's my win for one of these and my runner-up for the other two.
Watts gave the best performance of the decade in Mulholland Drive and solid performances in films like 21 Grams, The Ring, King Kong and The Painted Veil.
But Streep might actually take this. Her performances in Adaptation and The Devil Wears Prada are among her best/most iconic, and she also has The Hours, Doubt and Angels in America.

Tougher than actors. But probably Amy Adams for me.
Streep and Watts are probably next for me.

Mulholland Drive. The Ring. 21 Grams. I Heart Huckabees. King Kong. The Painted Veil. Funny Games. Eastern Promises.
A flawless, iconic run from 01-07. Comedy, drama, period pieces, horror films, indies, blockbusters. Most acclaimed film and female performance of the decade. You name it, she did it. Plus great work in underseen films like Ellie Parker, Mother & Child, and We Don’t Live Here Anymore.
