I think its safe to say that MOST everyone on here does not like this performance. I, However, think its one of her BEST. Brutally honest IMO. And she does it in gorgeous style. "Dont you Call me Lady!" Damn right. And if you do? "Shame on you!"

I liked her. The only performance that rises above meh in that movie. I guess to some people shes a joke but that's kinda how i see the film so its a good fit.

I like her if anything my problems with that movie is in my usual PTA stuff (Love him .......but he doesn't know how to end this one especially and spends an hour trying to end it).....most people gripe about Moore's performance because it's not perceived as "naturalistic" - and if you've ever seen someone with an addiction problem freak out at a doctor, nurse or pharmacist they aren't usually naturalistic either.

As someone with an addiction, it rings so much MY Truth - maybe not others but she really got me. When we need our fix, Watch Out and Get the Fuck outta the Way! Just my opinion and experience.

I love Moore, but I think that performance sucks. I don't mind performances that aren't naturalistic, but they have to be persuasive, and I found her hysterical in a way that didn't play well to me. Her acting decision-making was way off here, IMO. Not unlike Fiona Shaw in The Black Dahlia.

I don't know if you guys have ever seen someone else have a prolonged hysterical meltdown, but it looks exactly like her performance in the film, and every character in Magnolia is exaggerated anyway. Unless the movie just didn't work for you at all, I don't see where the hate comes from for this role

Unless the movie just didn't work for you at all, I don't see where the hate comes from for this role I have, and I don't agree. There was something self-conscious in the presentation that felt unmoored (so to speak), to me. Like JM didn't really know how to play the scene, and couldn't lose herself in the acting either.

I mean yeah if it didn't work for you it didn't work in terms of the exaggerated side of it, just odd to me people single that one out especially when Cruise's and Walters' performance for example aren't much different, it's a hyper-realistic movie

She's not the mvp or anything but I have no beef with her performance. The general quality of acting in Magnolia is just so good...

I like it. Back then, I found it pretty odd to see that the performance was divisive around here.
