Has anyone watched this, or been watching this?
I think this story could've easily been it's own standalone series, but perhaps they could only get the finances by producing it as a second installment of the Dirty John series. It's a pretty salacious story and I think it's smart to revisit it in this post-MeToo/TimesUp climate. I'm too young to remember details about the scandal when it first broke, but it feels like Betty was painted as a unhinged woman scorned by the media, but if you read up on the details of her marriage to Dan, the guy was a mammoth piece of shit who basically gaslighted his wife for years and then bilked her out of her fair share of their marital assets even though she basically gave up most of her life for his professional pursuits. NOT that that justifies her murdering him or his new wife, but these facts still complicate the narrative.
Anyways, Peet and Slater are very entertaining to watch and show itself is punchy and slickly produced.

I think it's coming to Netflix next month and I'll be checking it out. I watched the first season of Dirty John last weekend -- ended up binging the whole thing in one night. Did not think Bana had that in him.

Dayum. Similar to the first season, watched it all in one go tonight. This shit is addictive. Peet really blew me away and I'm surprised she wasn't a full blown prune by the end with the waterworks she had to produce. Definite roller coaster of emotions and I like all the different perspectives shown. The fashion and attention to detail with the art direction was very much appreciated.

Yeah, Peet stunned me with what she pulled off, especially in the last few episodes. I think her casting initially was a bit of an eyebrow raiser (she doesn't evoke the real Betty Broderick at all, really), but her immersion into the character's escalating desperation and indignation was completely riveting to watch. I have some qualms with how the murder and trial are portrayed, but overall the show struck a very satisfying balance between soap opera and cultural commentary.

Finished binging this in one night and I agree with both of you about Peet. I had no idea she had this kinda of performance in her. She fucking blew me away. The courtroom scene when Betty is giving her closing statements in the divorce trial was heartbreaking and made me tear up. Idk if the chance to nominate her for awards is over but she deserves at least a nomination for her performance
This woman’s story is tragic. I love that the show demonstrated the oppressiveness of the patriarchal system without being SJW about it and beating it over your head with it. As a feminist and anti-capitalist, this story serves as great (extreme) example of the deadly consequences of obsession with money and success as well as how oppressive the capitalist system is to women
