Even with the extended eligibility it doesn’t look like there will be any major contenders released outside of streaming.

Even with the extended eligibility it doesn’t look like there will be any major contenders released outside of streaming. The studios don't want to release the movies on VOD so who knows. If they do cancel the Oscars, Netflix should take it personal.

should be a third option for undecided because I have no idea but we've gotten to a point where I wouldn't be shocked if it happened.

I know it would be a major thing and Disney probably wants that ad revenue, but I don’t know how things go on even with delaying the ceremony. Most of the non-Netflix films just seem like they’re going to keep getting bumped, and who knows when theaters will finally reopen in the US especially with second and possibly third waves. Plus, I don’t really know if people will be in the mood to celebrate by the end of April next year. Maybe, but I didn’t think 2020 could get that much worse than 2019, and I was obviously wrong. So 2021 might be even worse than 2020. I’m wondering if they’d ever do a joint year since 2021 likely wasn’t going to have much except what got bumped, or what was already close to being done or what might be quick to do. Plus completely canceling this year seems unfair to films that have already released and to Netflix and other VOD releases that might be eligible.

I think it just depends on whether or not they’re okay with it being entirely streaming dominated. That’s the way it looks to be headed at this point. I’m starting to doubt that there will be many major releases for the rest of the year.

They should just let the chips fall and let people look back on the year and laugh at what won. IMHO, they're trying to control the outcome and that sucks.

Even with the proposed April date I can see them being cancelled/postponed.

I think the ceremony is going to be delayed further or they’ll just make a bumper 2021 Oscars where 2020 films will be eligible.

Since next year is also going to be a bad year for movies because movies are not being filmed right now, they should just cancel the Oscars and combine these two years.
