pacinoyes yo rundown? '73: Lead Actor - Serpico (No idea who wins, I guess one of the Robert Redford performances. I hate the year) '74: Lead Actor - The Godfather: Part 2 ( WIN) '75: Lead Actor - Dog Day Afternoon (between Nicholson and Pacino, I prefer Nicholson. No idea who wins overall) '83: Lead Actor - Scarface ( WIN) '90: Lead Actor - The Local Stigmatic (Not sure who wins.... Depardieu, Byrne, Penn, Cage, Nolte.... it's a bad year ) '90: Supporting Actor - Dick Tracy ( WIN) '92: Supporting Actor - Glengarry Glen Ross (#3 behind Studi and Davison) '97: Lead Actor - Donnie Brasco ( WIN) '99: Lead Actor - The Insider (#2 behind Crowe) '04: Lead Actor - The Merchant of Venice (#5 behind Washington, Giamatti, Cruise, and Hanks) He's on my radar for 4 or 5 other movies. I haven't seen The Irishman, but it's on my library queue. Needs some more months.

I'm a little burned out on Pacino tbh, blah blah blah I'm sure if you look up my past history you can find my thoughts and the Pacino stans will be here ......nah j/k I'm not a dick ........and I can take 2 minutes and be polite can't I? Yeah I can ********************************************************************************************** He's actually an awards "problem" because some of his best work just can't be nodded - particularly Scarecrow because he can only get 1 per category in 1973, and Local Stigmatic (love it, in my top 5 for him, but too short (50 mins) and never released in theaters anyway) .......and of course TV since that is um.......TV. That takes out 4 of my top 10 Pacino performances! Panic in Needle Park, The Godfather (BSA or BA win whichever), Serpico, The Godfather Part II (win), Dog Day Afternoon (win), And Justice For All, Dick Tracy (support), Scarface, Glengarry Glen Ross (support), Scent of A Woman, Heat, Donnie Brasco, The Irishman (support). So somewhere around ~13 Oscar nods, 3 wins .......bunch of top 10s .....

GF I (BA, not BSA) Serpico GF II - WIN DDA - Him or Jack for the win And Justice for All Scarface (him or Duvall, Finney, Caine ftw) GF III Scent of a Woman Donnie Brasco (BSA) The Insider (BSA) Merchant of Venice (BA or BSA, whatever) The Irishman (BSA)
That's about 2 Oscars in a total of 12 nods. Unfortunately for him, his tv work and Chinese Coffee were ineligible. As a matter of fact, I just decided to rewatch Chinese Coffee...

I don't really care about eligibility whatever personally... I guess he would be a 9 time nominee for me instead of 10 in that case.

It was clearly time to give that topic a rest for awhile (especially in terms of fresh threads), and judging by the amount of people who liked that post where I said what I said, I echoed the sentiment of many. Nothing personal, but it's about reading the room.

Don't have lineups assembled but I'd guess if I put them together he definitely gets wins for The Godfather Part II and Angels in America (I don't separate miniseries/limited series from films when counting my favorites, don't see any reason to), maybe Scarface and Sea of Love too. Bunch of nominations

Guessing Angels in America and Chinese Coffee are the other 2? I don't really care about eligibility whatever personally... I guess he would be a 9 time nominee for me instead of 10 in that case. Chinese Coffee would actually be more eligible for an "Oscar list" the way I think of it than Local Stigmatic is in a way since it at least has the length of a feature film - see THAT'S how much of a weird PITA he is ........ his two "TV top 10s" to me are AiA and YDK Jack (2010) - his 2 Emmy wins. A great statistic for his genius/bullsh it is this: there are just 4 male actors who got an Oscar nomination, Tony nomination and Emmy nomination (and a win!) in the 2010s - Pacino, Mark Rylance, Bryan Cranston, Adam Driver .......and he's significantly older than the other 3. People don't think of "Al Pacino is the Best Actor of the 2010s!....." and he's not actually ........ but he also never goes away either.....he's sort of always there haunting us ............like the IRS.......or Covid.....

Wow!! I'd give the man only(!) two Oscars and some of you would give him 4 or 5!!! And I thought I was a die hard fan!!
PS. If AiA and YDKJ were eligible for the Oscars, him getting nominated would be a no-brainer. Possibly with two wins, also.

re: the conversation surrounding Pacino/De Niro/Hoffman/Nicholson i did a quick count of my own lineups and found out that I nominate Pacino the most with seven, followed by Nicholson with six, Hoffman with five and De Niro only with three. So that's my contribution to the discussion.
Pacino is wonderful. Remember not long ago that I said I preferred Hoffman. I think I still do, I don't know. Maybe The Irishman pushes him ahead because that perf is among his best work (that's right, his best) and Hoffman has been irrelevant for years now. What I do know is that no one had a better run in the 70s than Pacino. At the very least he'll always have that. It's when he lets himself go that I tend to lose interest. Still haven't seen Scent of a Woman but I'm not expecting to like it...
anyways
1972: Best Actor, The Godfather 1973: Best Actor, Serpico 1974: Best Actor, The Godfather Part II 1975: Best Actor, Dog Day Afternoon (runner-up to Tim Curry) 1992: Best Supporting Actor, Glengary Glen Ross 1999: Best Actor, The Insider 2019: Best Supporting Actor, The Irishman (runner-up to Dafoe)
He comes close for Panic in Needle Park but doesn't quite cut the top 5, and like I always say, I have more to see, including some big ones like Donnie Brasco.

The Godfather The Godfather Part II Scarface Scent of a Woman Donnie Brasco
3 wins, 5+ nominations
There's probably a few more, but they'd be for films I haven't finished. I also don't remember how much I liked him in The Insider. Haven't seen Glengarry Glen Ross or Scarecrow or Panic in Needle Park. Only saw about 60% of Dog Day Afternoon and when I went back to finish it, it was no longer on demand at the time.
