OK... so the Denzel thread went well, depending on how you look at it... I guess.
Nicolas Cage is my man. I guess he has not historically on Movie Awards have created the riots that Denzel has tho.
I'm kinda surprised he doesn't make the Harris poll for most liked actors. My mom knows Nicolas Cage, but I don't think she knows Brad Pitt. She knows Leonardo DiCaprio mostly for Titanic... but for some reason Brad Pitt never registered with her. I know that's anecdotal and doesn't have anything to do with who's more liked in America or anything, but Nicolas Cage has always seemed like a HUGE box office actor to me. He was everywhere in the 90s.... the only guy who's face I couldn't even avoid in my basement more was Harrison Ford.
***I don't think I've seen The Weather Man, Lord of War, Joe, or Mandy. I know that's a lot of movies I'm missing, but I'm gonna check people's lineups to get a sense of things around here.
Nominations:
'87: Lead Actor - Raising Arizona (he's behind Rourke - Barfly for sure... my #1. And probably Michael Douglas too. I dunno past that.)
'90: Lead Actor - Wild at Heart (#4 or #5 Behind Pacino, Depardieu, and then probably Penn, Byrne.... right somewhere along with those 2)
'95: Lead Actor - Leaving Las Vegas (WIN)
'02: Lead Actor - Adaptation. (probably right after Day-Lewis)
'03: Lead Actor - Matchstick Men (probably right after Murray)
'09: Lead Actor - Bad Lieutenant (I dunno... behind Harrelson I guess.... year sucks)
ALMOSTs:
'93: Lead Actor - Red Rock West (I wanna fit him in but the year is too strong. No way he touches Murray or Douglas. And Hopkins has to be 3rd. And then there's Neeson, Thewlis, Phoenix, and Hopkins again...... yeah he probably doesn't make it.)
'98: Lead Actor - City of Angels (Another strong year. McKellen, Norton, Hanks, Harrelson, Clooney, Douglas, Gallo....., probably end up #6 at the end)
