Mattsby and I were discussing her in the multiple wins of Maggie Smith thread a while ago, but I think she deserves her own thread. Any other fans here? I find her so compelling to watch and think she's a very underrated scream queen. The Innocents is one hell of a debut, many consider her snubbed for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (she won National Board of review for supporting actress), and the rest of the decade she was very good in The Nanny, Our Mother's House and The Night of the Following Day. I'm a big fan of her work in And Soon the Darkness and The Legend of Hell House -- though I've been putting off Necromancy for the longest time I aim to get around to it (she met her husband while making it so there's one plus because it doesn't look very good ). The rest of her career is made up of random television episodes, and as per Wikipedia she said working so much in television in the states typecast her for the rest of her career. Shame, I think she's really consistent and fascinating to watch.

Interesting actress! She had a delicate presence which made the mischief and fury in her darker roles that much more surprising and effective. How many actresses are Emmy and BAFTA nom'd by 20y/o and in a bonafide masterpiece (The Innocents). The Third Secret was I think the first big one where it's "Yeah, that's a talent." She was 13 and acts opposite aduIts in all of her scenes, and she's the one driving those scenes - a lot of dialogue, seemingly very smart, and we learn disturbed too which makes us think back on the perf and what she was slyly doing. Haven't seen those Disney movies but leaving the lighter behind, it seems others realized she was a fit for those wise but darkening precocious parts. The Nanny is a somewhat more regular kid part and she has great, plausible chemistry with the main kid. Our Mother's House is a tricky, creepy perf, and 1969 she's holding her own with the upper-tier greats, etc.....
Seems her move to Hollywood was a botch, where she wasn't getting offered good parts, and then was typecast bc of what did work (the horrors), but then those parts dried up or else she was done taking them. I love her in Hell House.... That same year you could kinda picture her in De Palma's Sisters or even as a Lady Macbeth maybe. She hinted at an ease going btwn American/British roles.... def deserved a better career, which ended around 30y/o - Still alive!

She is better than Smith in The Happiness of Miss Jean Brodie.
And Smith was damn miraculous in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
The only other movie of hers I've seen is The Innocents, which is one of the greatest child performances ever.

Just watched her in the "Half A Death" (1972) episode of Ghost Story - where she plays twins......pretty good episode and it's a chance to see her in her horror comfort zone ........twice. Scream queen:
