Between Hanks and Mortensen, I definetly prefer Antonio Banderas!

Hanks overall, but Viggo in The Road is best of both.

This is one of those insane MAR things where Mr. F'N Exene Cervenka (see photo below) is compared to a guy who could play Viggo better than Viggo could play himself. This is like "A Face In The Crowd" being a better film than "On The Waterfront" (um), The Shining being a bad Jack Nicholson performance (um) and other such assorted MARuKiddingMe stuff.

Well you can always find stuff from (usually early in a career) that blows though that Hanks is awful ...... in Viggo's case well he'll always have San Marcos....and if you play in San Marcos..........you play to lose!

Wow, all of the acting in that scene is bad high school play bad. It's kind of inspiring that he was only 12 years away from Forrest Gump when he did that, though. Crazy.

From now on, whenever my friends try to stop me from doing some dumb shit, I'm going to respond deadpan, "I have spells."

I can’t believe this was only 2 years before Splash, and before he played an alcoholic on Family Ties. If I would have seen this in 1982 without seeing him in Bosom Buddies, you couldn’t convince me that he’d go on to win two acting Oscars someday.

Even aside from the Oscars just that he would become such a huge star. He had to already be 30ish, he wasn't that good looking, and he's in this terrible TV movie, if you pointed at him and said in ten years he'd be an A-list star everyone would have just laughed.

Check out this doofus named Nicolas Cage in 1983. If you would've told me this idiot would've been lord of the Box Office from 1995-2011 and anoint him the label of "action star," I definitely would've lost money on that bet.

Cage becoming an action star is definitely an unexpected development (and probably not a good one, he's better in weird character parts) but remember he had the Coppola connection. When he was filming Ridgemont High he reportedly annoyed the rest of the cast and crew by repeatedly telling them all he'd be a huge star one day due to his family connections.

We definitely need a separate thread just filled with clips like the Hanks and Cage ones above of early terrible work of actors that would go on to have great careers.
Might also help people take it easier on current young actors ability to develop.
