In the future. New players only.

I feel like some of these auteurs like to talk and recommend actors to each other. I can see Timothee Chalamet and Michael B Jordan, who are both "hot" young leading men in the industry and doing a lot of auteur work now. Those two in theory fit into Nolan's casting wheelhouse.

It's harder to tell with actresses. There doesn't seem to be any consistent rhyme or reason to how he casts them. From Katie Holmes, Carrie-Ann Moss, Elizabeth Debicki, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway.... his female casting can feel a bit more random.

Yeah, Gosling was my first thought.

Post Interstellar Nolan surprised me with his choices. Unknown lead actors for Dunkirk. John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki for Tenet. If i have to guess the lead actors for his next movie, it will be someone who gets enough acclaim to be in limelight but not too popular.

I can definitely see Cooper and Goslling at some point because they've both worked with WB on high profile tentpole movies not too long ago. I could see Smith too. I know Depp is working with WB now, but Fantastic Beasts probably only gets one more movie. Beyond that, I just don't know if Depp really cares anymore right now about acting, and I can't see many A-List directors rushing out to work with him maybe in the future depending on how things go. In addition to Gosling and Cooper who are doing very well right now and almost always seemed to get mentioned for everything, I will add in a few other actors whose names always seem to come up for everything now like Jake Gyllenhaal, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. I think at some point they'll work with Nolan even if it's only in a small part which is something I could definitely see Driver doing just because I know he has a long list of directors that he wants to work with, and I'm sure that Nolan is probably on that list. For the ladies, Pugh and Ronan make a lot of sense. Maybe also two relative newcomers like Jessie Buckley and Jodie Comer too. I could also see him working with Carey Mulligan in the future. As a curveball, I'll throw out Meryl Streep's name. After all the discourse with film twitter and elsewhere about Streep not working with auteurs and then Spielberg and Soderbergh casting her, I could see Nolan out of the blue doing that similar to how not many if anyone was predicting John David Washington to be the star of Tenet when we were all trying to guess who Nolan would cast as the lead.

Gosling will definitely happen. Just give it time.
And I hope to GOD that a potential Bradley Cooper/ Nolan film NEVER happens! Why would anyone want to see that?! lol Sorry just not a fan of Cooper really.

I can see Adam Driver being someone Nolan will want to take advantage of in the future.

Echoing Gosling and Driver. Both make a lot of sense. Maybe DeNiro or Hopkins in smaller roles.

Adam Driver and Jake Gyllenhaal are perfect Nolan actors. I would honestly be surprised if they didn't at least show up in one of his movies, even if it's only a Damon sized Interstellar type role, although personally I think I'd love to see them as protagonist of one of his mind-blowing movies. They fit his arguably cold sheen, and exterior a lot. I don't even have a clue what Streep would be like in a Nolan movie. Now I'm imagining her playing botched comic relief aunt character or something, and I don't know why.

Anyone who just had a good year and studios want to make a household name and/or just won an Oscar.

If Nolan were to cast Driver, I don't really see him as a lead, just because Nolan typically goes for male stars with more traditional good looks. Driver has a more unusual, "offbeat" look to him, so I think he'd more likely be cast in a supporting part if anything.
Given that each new film Nolan makes seems to address common criticisms directed at him (emotional coldness - Interstellar, exposition - Dunkirk, diversity - Tenet), I wouldn't be surprised if his next film features a female lead.

Nolan movie leads and age
Guy Pearce (33) Al Pacino (62) - Note: Nolan didn't write the script Christian Bale (31, 32, 34, 38) Hugh Jackman (38) Leonardo DiCaprio (36) Matthew McConaughey (45) Fionn Whitehead (20) John David Washington (36)
Jake Gyllenhaal seems most bound to be cast as a lead in a Nolan movie - the right age, excellent actor who holds the screen and Gyllenhaal is no stranger to mystery/ sci-fi/ thriller genres given how his filmography is peppered with these choices. James McAvoy seems possible as a Nolan lead. I can also see Andrew Garfield as lead given his potential.
If we take a step back and consider possible female leads, then I'd say Emma Stone, Florence Pugh and Ana De Armas. Maybe Nolan will be inspired to cast Kate Winslet after seeing Avatar 2? (I'd love to see this happen)

So Pugh happened. Still think Gosling is inevitable. I don't see why Tom Cruise isn't possible. Paul Mescal. Colin Farrell. Saoirse Ronan. Keira Knightley. Cate Blanchett. Carey Mulligan.

Would love to see Sheeshaw, Cruise, Fassbender, or De Niro in a supporting role from the choices listed. No matter what we say, he'll cast Michael Caine again In 40-50 years old man Nolan will still be making movies with a holographic Caine powered by a Caine programed AI. Can even have him as the lead from his younger days in Gambit and the Harry Palmer movies!

Sam Rockwell - they just seem like they're buddies already so they might as well. Go ahead and throw Oldman back in there too. Gosling & Fassbender seem like good bets. Edward Norton seems like he'd fit right in. Ben Foster would be a cool addition too. For actresses, I agree on Stone and De Armas. Maybe Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Amy Adams, or Natalie Portman? Gemma Chan would be an interesting pick - she has that icy sort've style that he tends to go for.
