So me and cherry68 is having this discussion. I personally think Jolie is like Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio. All often play characters who are strong-willed, characters who fights through a great deal of emotional pain and suffering, as well as characters who always fight the system, occasionally can veer off into action films, can lead big budget films, but also can do drama and films that the Oscars appreciate. All 3 are box office hits, and they all have a wide selection of Hollywood parts to choose from, and aren't necessarily stuck to one cache. Not that they would go near independent films though. So... any bright thoughts or someone I might've missed?

She is basically an action movie star. I never saw her portraying a fragile woman, but she's sometimes the villain or something. I was thinking Charles Bronson for some aspects, or a less likeable Harrison Ford.

She's a rebel, or she's rebelling against something or someone in these movies too. N/s Playing by Heart though.

I was thinking Charles Bronson for some aspects, or a less likeable Harrison Ford. I don't know that I'd consider her like Charles Bronson exactly, but I can see that better than the DiCaprio and Pitt comparisons, because it does seem like most of her famous roles are where she's played in action films or quasi-villain. To be fair though, even with her the action/villain roles that I've seen her in like Maleficent and Mrs. Smith, she had moments where she was emotionally vulnerable. In a broad sense, I see the similarities to DiCaprio and Pitt, but I feel that they've been much more calculated with their filmographies, and imo always put in the work. Not that they don't have other priorities like DiCaprio with his environmental work and family and humanitarian work being a big priority for Pitt, but I get the sense especially after her Oscar win that she's okay with just coasting at times, caring more about getting money to fund other things. There's nothing wrong with that, but I guess she's somewhat like Sandler or Stallone to me in the recent thread about getting annoyed with actors who just do crap. Also unlike DiCaprio and Pitt, she won an Oscar very early on in her career, and while I know she doesn't have the best relationship with her father, I do think that being related to him helped open doors for her unlike DiCaprio and Pitt. I know DiCaprio started at a very early age, and was one of the few child stars that was able to really transition into a highly successful working actor as an adult, and Pitt struggled early on before his breakthrough in Thelma and Louise. Like I remember he told an anecdote once about how Donovan Leitch Jr. was being promoted as the next big thing when they worked on Cutting Class together, and Anyway I think she can be a good actress; although, she's never been one of my favorites. "Gia", "Playing by Heart", "Changeling", "A Mighty Heart"? Are those fragile women? She's a rebel, or she's rebelling against something or someone in these movies too. N/s Playing by Heart though. The movie is a little predictable, but it's cute, imo, and she's really great in it.
