My absolute favorite thing to watch is a miniseries from the BBC - they're always so well done.

I'd say the quintessential example would be the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth - have you seen this? The perfect thing to enjoy a nice cup of tea with. I haven't! As for tea, have you seen my Coffee v Tea thread! I thought it'd cause a stir (it'll heat up eventually) but it's a pleasant war of these boards. Actually, speaking of, I'd recommend the Alfred Hitchcock Presents "Tea Time" episode with Margaret Leighton, a tete-a-tete fun 20ish minutes.

Given this boards disturbing Anglophile tendencies: Daniel Day-Lewis overpraising, Smiths overpraising, Radiohead over------- um, you get the idea.......I'm surprised no one has mentioned this triumph - though I posted this in the Great Performances thread once and ........the response was crickets so I dunno. As ibbi once said to me - about this show "That was bang on! It was Gear and fab!" ....whatever that means....... The Singing Detective (1986):

Mother Love, a terrific but largely forgotten TV series with Diana Rigg at her best.

I've also seen Restless from BBC One that Rampling received an Emmy nomination for - Michelle Dockery and Hayley Atwell are in it, too. For the Dickensian adaptations, I have really loved David Copperfield (1998) with Maggie Smith, Great Expectations (2001) with Rampling, and Bleak House (2006) with Gillian Anderson - highly recommend all of them if you haven't seen them.

You might want to check out the other BBC adaptations of Elizabeth Gaskell's - North and South and Cranford - all excellent.
