At this point it's probably Bad Boys for Life?

Sticking with Da 5 Bloods for now ... kinda dumb to bet against Netflix at this point.
(Unless late 2020 sees a massive movie theater renaissance or something, in which case it’s dumb to bet in their favor.)

Bad Boys for Life looks like a frontrunner, but I think Sonic the Hedgehog will pull off an upset.

You guys are seriously sleeping on The Turning. My avatar didn't give them a whole original song for nothing.

I honestly don't know, this year will be very strange...

Mank??? I honestly don't know, this year will be very strange... (Maybe if Cats wasn't released that early...) I agree that I think whatever wins will probably be atypical again unless there's a really big crowdpleaser, but I'm not really sure about that considering people will still be scared to go out to the movies right away plus who knows what movie chains will still be open by that time. Also I think Mank will suffer from being the early frontrunner. It looks good on paper (movie about the industry, director whose due to at least win Best Director, Netflix assuming that's a good thing this year, good buzz), but every year it seems like the early frontrunner(s) never makes it all the way. I guess I'll go with Next Goal Wins because Jojo Rabbit went pretty far even with being divisive, and NGW should probably be a crowdpleaser and also has the "importance" angle. Not really happy about it because my expectations were pretty high for Jojo Rabbit until the first trailer, but maybe NGW will be just the opposite, lower expectations but I end up really liking it.

feel like at least half of these are definitely not getting released this year and I'm not confident there'll even be an Oscars next year since all the films that were supposed to be released in the Summer/Fall slots are either likely to be pushed back to or have ceased production completely (and aren't going to be resumed any time soon, let's be real). Add to that the fact that there'll be a lot less campaigning in the traditional sense (or none at all) if film festivals continue to be canceled into Fall, which is looking more and more likely, and that box office and buzz won't be a factor at all with theaters potentially staying closed most of the rest of the year, if not the entire year. The movie industry is completely fucked for 2020.
Ummm... but I guess I'll say Never Rarely Sometimes Always. It's been seen and people like it.

News of the World is still a Christmas release, yes? I think by that time, people will be looking forward to a chance to be in theaters again and Tom Hanks may be able to draw them in.

Sticking with Mank.
Also for the people voting for Da 5 Bloods, just a heads up, as of right now it's not even one of Netflix's Top 3 priorities.

(Unless late 2020 sees a massive movie theater renaissance or something, in which case it’s dumb to bet in their favor.) You still have to follow the LA theatre rule. Right now, there are no theatres opened in all of LA and LA doesn't have drive in theatres so you can't qualify that way. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Surely they'll adjust the rules somehow to accommodate I doubt it. It's the studio's fault for hoarding movies. Silence of the Lambs was released in Feb. There is no rule that says that you have to wait until Oct to release Oscar bait movies, they just choose to do so.

I mean, The Father is not on the list. Should we add it next month? Does it really stand a chance? I guess it does, given the current situation.
