Thought others might be interested! Starting tomorrow (April 2nd) and running all the way through May, National Theatre Live will be making some of their older catalog available for free on YouTube. Every Thursday at 7 PM (UK time) they will stream a new play, which will then be kept online for one full week until the following play is streamed. Tomorrow's opener will be One Man, Two Guvnors (2011), for which James Corden won a Tony for Lead Actor. That's how excited I am to finally have a chance to watch these NT Live selections: I'm actively anticipating something starring James fucking Corden. Here's where it'll be streamed: They're yet to announce the full line-up, but here are the four plays that have been scheduled so far: April 2: One Man, Two Guvnors, by Richard Bean April 9: Jane Eyre, adapted by Sally Cookson (trailer here) April 16: Treasure Island, adapted by Bryony Lavery April 23: Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare Really looking forward to this!

Oooooooh, I'll be there. I'll at least try the first one, see how well they're filmed.

Classic farce. I've got a splitting headache now, but it was worth it.

Might check out Jane Eyre next week. Did you? I thought it was pretty spectacular. These sorts of gothic stories are especially suited to the unreality of the stage, in which ghosts and terrors can exist in the shadows of our minds.

Wasn't a fan of Treasure Island. My handsome Rory is a lot of fun as Long John (I didn't recognize him without centurion getup, silly me), but that's as far as my praise goes. This production draaaags its feet getting to the ship, and once we arrive the story rockets through with only one moment's breath (the lovely stargazing scene, easily the highlight of the show).
The fact that around 40% of this is narration spouted out at machine gun speeds by Jim is a major sign that something was wrong right from a script level. Still, it is fast and enjoyable enough as action spectacle, I guess.
