The first Netflix true crime series I actually really want to watch. Wonder if this will be my gateway drug.

Does it take place in Florida? It would have to take place in Florida with a title like that.

I'm only 1 episode in but I love this stuff - big kitties, guns, rednecks - what could go wrong?
It's like a genre mash-up of Grizzly Man/Dukes of Hazzard/Deliverance....

This needs to be the next Danny McBride/Walton Goggins project. McBride as Joe Exotic is perfect casting.

Already binged the first 5 episodes. Really hookedþ.
Michael Keaton for Joe Exotic! Kate McKinnon is horribly miscast as Carole Baskin though, looks nothing like her and decades too you

This was shockingly great and by the end packed a real wallop too. I think I took it a little different maybe because while I do love animals I think animal rights people can be bizarrely anti-human ...............but the show is incredibly sympathetic to humans and their weaknesses too and draws a clear connection and the differences between wildlife and human life. The human capacity to rationalize and deceive ourselves (and others) ruins all these people lives in incremental ways and after you stop laughing at these folks you kind of want to cry for them too (maybe). 9/10

I have one episode to go, but this is a truly staggering experience. I saw it described online as a real life Christopher Guest movie which is spot on. Feels like all the animals and their well-being really took a backseat to the shenanigans though.

me watching The Lighthouse: This guy was straight out of a Coen brothers movie... and should definitely be played by Billy Bob Thornton: Outside of that... this was pretty great. The question in the back of my mind for most of it was "who's the craziest person on this show?" and the answer changed every 10 minutes. And I thought the same thing as this letterboxd reviewer: But the main takeaway of course is that these animals should not be caged and bred period... and especially not by people that are batshit insane.

But the main takeaway of course is that these animals should not be caged and bred period... and especially not by people that are batshit insane. I just made it through one episode so far because I had to take a breather because I just felt bad for those poor animals. I mean I know from social media and what not that there's the whole question about what happened to Carole Baskin's first husband , but I guess for now she's slightly better than Joe and Bhagavan because it doesn't seem like she's breeding the tigers just to get the cubs. She's definitely crazy though, and I'm not sure how much better her facility really is besides not breeding the animals she does have. I hate PETA though, so there's no winners and unfortunately the animals are the losers of the story.

As an animal lover and someone who struggles with material where literally every character is unlikeable, I'm struggling to get into this. Understand why it's become popular, but this is just in the "not for me" pile.
