deadline.com/2020/03/tom-hanks-rita-wilson-test-positive-coronavirus-elvis-presley-movie-1202880431/They tested positive for it while Hanks was in Australia filming Baz Lurhmann's Elvis biopic.
Pretty sure a lot of movies and TV shows filming are going to be affected by this virus, and productions will have to be shut down.
These are probably the most famous/ high profile people to have gotten the virus so far, but probably won't be the last major celebrities to get it.
Here is to a speedy recovery to the Hankses.

:eek:Hope they both make a full recovery . JFC just also saw the rest of the NBA season has been canceled as well! FUCK THIS VIRUS! The economic ramifications of this virus are going to be insane. It's shutting down major sports events (they've already cancelled the Indian Wells tennis tournament, and there is talk the rest of the tennis season may get shut down, including the Grand slams). As you said, closed door NBA matches are happening. Anywhere with a large gathering of people is at risk. So TV and movie sets are going to face shutdowns as well.

OH NO!!! Terrible news. Hope they recover soon. Tom Hanks actually sent out a tweet earlier about the condition, and he sounded like the best guy possible, even in the face of near death.
You're absolutely right this is going to effect overseas production. Wouldn't surprise me if films that were planned to shoot outside of the U.S. are cancelled or delayed because of it. Scary stuff.

Not just overseas production. The virus is causing shutdowns and event cancellations in America right now (Tennis events cancelled, Universities sending students home to finish the whole semester and rest of the year online, NBA games played with no crowd etc). At this rate, it's absolutely going to affect local US film and TV productions. The potential ramifications are catastrophic.

The dow is also a taking serious beating, especially with Trump in charge (his comments aren't helping at all). The economy is going to suffer. Another recession was eventually inevitable, but this is absolutely going to speed things up to horrifyingly new heights. As far as the film and TV industry, it's not good at all.

Hanks has underlying conditions as well such as diabetes, and his wife just recovered from cancer, so they are even more vulnerable....

Also, as an aside to your point about Trump it feels slightly ridiculous to have a US Presidential election that will be contested by people in the most-at-risk-of-dying by Coronavirus age group (near their 80's). Whether Trump ends up facing Biden or Sanders, all these guys are old enough to be risking death by infection on the campaign trail. Talking of industries adjancent to film and TV, I suspect Broadway is going to take a big hit as well eventually.

The fact that all are major candidates are over seventy, and could easily succumb to the coronavirus and die, is both tragic and fucking ridiculous. It speaks to how much the U.S. just wanted someone who could both beat Trump and bring order back to the oval office. Broadway is only inevitable. Anything arts related is going to take a huge hit due to the economy.

No joke, I was at the gas station and they had a 3 pack of those travel sized Purell's (the things you'd get for a dollar at Target or CVS) for $12... a full 400% markup.

Shit man..on Amazon I saw a 4-pack of Lysol Spray cans going for $89 bucks. Heard that for hand sanitizer as well. Extremely high demand..all the water was gone at my local Wal-Mart as well. I imagine Vick’s and Cold Medicine is next

Their symptoms don't look bad at all. Some people aren't severely affected by coronavirus and recover in few days. Maybe they are among the lucky patients.

They have serious underlying conditions though....the people who are relatively healthy will recover much, much quicker. It probably won’t even effect them much at all. But what Hanks and his wife have put them at such a higher risk of the virus just ploughing through their body. I really don’t mean to be so morbid, and I really pray they come out of this unscathed......just stating some unfortunate facts.
