I can’t tell you how happy I am right now.
In Ellie’s words, “So fucking cool!”

Any news on if they're going the improv musical route hinted at in the alternate ending?

Well, good thing Druckmann is on, hopefully he can teach Mazin how to write some actual characters.

The Walking Dead the game is 100 times better than the show. So based on that we can make an initial assumption about this production. Not that I'm not curious about the show of course, cause I'll definitely watch it.

Edgerton better pick up his damn phone. If not him, then Jason Clarke. And if not him, then Hugh Jackman. Moral of the story, just hire an Aussie!

I want The Wolf Among Us! I didn't even like that game, but it has potential as a series.

I'm incredibly happy, yet also incredibly sad just because (and I'm probably *not* allowed to discuss this but...) in my time working for Vertigo Entertainment, they were attached to a feature-film version helmed by Cary Fukunaga and written by Trey Edward Shults... and I would have loved to see what that pairing would make of the material (especially as the latter is a huge fan of the game too). Though perhaps that's still the plan and this series (not mini-series which is odd...) might follow an unrelated story?

Honestly, as much as I hated It Comes At Night, it had a ready-made cast for The Last of Us. Joel Edgerton as Joel, Carmen Ejogo as Marlene, Kelvin Harrison, Jr. as Henry, Christopher Abbott as David, Riley Keough as Maria... We better get some Ish stories. All I'm sayin'.

Karl Urban was my first thought for Joel as well. His physique might not match Joel's as well as Edgerton for instance, but I think his balance of intensity and vulnerability would make him perfect for it...
And Thomas McKenzie could be the perfect Ellie, though she's probably a bit old for it now ... ideally they find a talented unknown for the part.
The David role is also a big one that's optimal to bring in a big guest star. McConaughey has always been my ideal choice for the role and I could still see it ... maybe there's still some lingering HBO connections?

I totally spaced on Dever. She's always struck me as being perfect for the role, down to her physique and voice which are incredibly similar to Ellie's. That said, she also might be a bit old at this point, but that could depend on how they decide to age the character for the series.
NCW as Joel I had never considered before ... and, I guess I could see it?? He wouldn't be my first choice and I can't say I'd be thrilled if that casting were announced, it'd be an interesting challenge for the actor and it'd ultimately be a matter of if he can pull off a character like that.

Six years ago, I’d have said Dever without a second thought.
But for off the wall casting... Judy Greer for Tess.

Dever would've been fine five or six years ago, but even though she looks younger than she is, what makes Ellie such a compelling character is that despite her bluster and bravado, she's still a fourteen-year-old, and I think you can find an effective enough actress to carry that without needing to go to an actress ten years older than what the role requires.
If you had to pick an older actress, I think Thomasin McKenzie fits the role better. She's got that vulnerability, but she's proven she's got a hard edge to her as well.
But this is a true star-maker of a role for a new face, like Arya Stark was for Maisie Williams or Beverly Marsh was for Sophia Lillis.

Kantemir Balagov (of Beanpole fame) is going to be directing. As long as it's not Cuckmann directing it, I'm fine. I'm also looking forward to the Uncharted movie with Tom Holland.
