Why was her 2010s so poor? It's like she couldn't even get in a room with a serious director besides Ridley Scott.

What deal are you talking about? Except for her Lisbeth Salander role in "The Girl" movies, she hasn't done anything really memorable in her career.
Not that she's not a good actress of course.

I really liked her in Prometheus, but Terry is right. She never had a big break. Nothing even close. So there are no surprises here.

She never got a breakout role, but there was a moment in which it really felt like she was about to happen. But I guess things did not work out. She wasn't conventionally beautiful like Alicia Vikander, and not charismatic enough to carry leading roles. She is more of a character actress, and her most memorable character - the one of Lisbeth Salander - was already replaced to american viewers by Rooney Mara, and people really loved Mara as Salander.

I actually think for an actress of her background, age, and unconventional (but still very striking) looks, she has done very well for herself this last decade.

Hm, what is this talk about "She never got a breakout role", "She never had a big break"? She starred in a Swedish series based on a worldwide best-selling trilogy that grossed more than 100 million at the box office. She was nominated for Bafta and Critics Choice for the role and later was the protagonist of Prometheus ...

No matter how popular, a foreign language film means nothing for Hollywood casting (nor should it - many actors who are excellent in their native language can't hack it in English). She got one lead role in a movie that wound up being a disappointment to many, and a handful of small character roles since. I'd hardly call the Millennium trilogy a big break. And as mentioned, her popularity for that character was erased by Rooney Mara.

Everybody saw the 3 movies with her, and those are the ones shown on TV quite often too.

It is easy to get trapped in the US-centric mindset. It looked like she would have an American breakthrough for a little while, at least.

I don't think she's working that much nowadays (but I don't follow Swedish cinema or TV tbh). I was only underlining how her Salander character was more well known in Europe than Mara 's.

What exactly is so “poor” about her choice of projects last decade? She was great & you cannot be hot every year in this industry, actors come & go. She loves her work & she will continue to do so.

She is continental European, for having a big Hollywood career, she needs to live in Hollywood accepting every rol is offered, hoping that one of these roles will make you a huge superestar.- That's why very few european continental had a huge Hollywood stardom. Even Sophia Loren prefered her italian movies, than stressed american ones.- There wasn't a huge european superstar since Ingrid Bergman. OK Loren, Cotillard, Cruz had a great Hollywood career, but not on the same level.-
British stars are different, they have a training and a prestigious aureola, that not even american actress has. And they could continue their stardom filming in London and Malta, taking some years off Hollywood.-
