Here comes Lin-Manuel's Oscar, if they make him write a new song for it.

Here comes Lin-Manuel's Oscar, if they make him write a new song for it. Aren’t there by-laws and grace periods depending on *when* a movie was shot?

I mean, on the one hand the idea of capturing and broadcasting spectacles like this to a wide audience is nothing short of commendable. It frustrates me to no end that note-worthy/celebrated theater isn't made available for people who aren't able to watch it live (meaning, 99.999% of them), not only because it restricts the public's access to art but also because it means there's no real register of it for posterity. It pisses me off so much that the British National Theatre has the whole NT Live series featuring literal dozens of acclaimed spectacles with great actors, and instead of making them available to purchase or stream worldwide after their runs are finished they make access to them basically impossible by locking them up in a vault. So yeah, I'm all for more initiatives like this.
On the other hand, though, fuck Disney.

Be nice to be able to watch it without all the recommended porn vids around the edge of the screen... I guess.

This was actually smart of Disney. Broadway is not coming back soon. That Phantom of the Opera Youtube cast had over 12mil views.

Disney wisely ending their 7-day free trial for Disney+ leading up to this.
