She isn't bad, but I'm mystified about the love for her performance. Affleck, Monaghan and Harris knock it out of the park in this movie, whereas Ryan is just "BOSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN" and never tones it down. It is off putting next to the restraint of everyone else.

Superb. Such a travesty she didn’t win Best Supporting Actress.

Yeah, I remember her. She was up against Tilda Swinton so there's only so much you can do to unseat such an acting titan.
Sure it's not Tilda's best work, but she was still twisted as hell. Amy Ryan definitely among the nominees did the most with her character though. Like she was given on paper probably a decent character but certainly on paper not jumping out or anything - and she elevated it to a standout memorable role. That was like a lived in method performance.
Ronan in Atonement, Morton in a couple of films, and Portman for My Blueberry Nights are some of the other good supporting actress performances of the year.... but the race comes down to either Tilda or Ryan.... don't much mind either one winning but this was obviously Tilda's only nomination. A laughable load of nonsense as we sit in the year 2020.

in one of the all-time best years for supporting actress she is the top of 'em all.

She's pretty good but Oscar worthy? I dunno...
