Where is the big change the Academy keeps promising every year with the new batch of voters? This could easily be 1996... Cynthia 's nod just proves the point about these nominations. They give nod to black person who played a slave and I still can't believe Parasite scored no acting nods, Roma did better and the rub is Parasite is more accessible.

JLO not getting in.....thanks...sorry but I could not handle divaness. Like Adam Sandler being Adam Sandler, I figured that her being J. Lo was always a hurdle that would be hard to get over. At least for Adam, you could say people didn't see it. You can't say that for JLo.

So folks - Peter Farrelly, Todd Phillips, which director of greasy comedies is up next for Oscar glory? David Dobkin had a trying out round with The Judge, he should latch on to a prestige project ASAP while the iron is hot! Jay Roach

- The Lighthouse deserved so much more love. At least a nom for Dafoe.
- The Farewell deserved some noms. Screenplay, Actress, Supporting Actress. Come on...
- I haven't seen Little Women, but the Oscars opened Pandora's Box with not nominating Greta and instead giving it to Todd.
- Would have loved to see De Niro get in, but I'm so happy The Irishman got love everywhere else.
- Randy Newman again! Love that dude!
- Oscars teetering on the edge this year with a lotta white people getting nominated. Kathy Bates? Really? Only non-white acting nom comes from a pure Oscar-baity performance. Not a great look, Oscars...

I don't think Roach counts at all. He's been taken "seriously" as a director of non-comedies since Recount in 2008. He's won Emmys etc for "serious" stuff he's directed. And he's done several well recieved dramatic movies.
All these other comedy dudes literally do one dramatic film, and then they are winning Best Picture or being nominated for Best Director. Roach has actually paid his dues.

Haven't watched 2 POPES yet so I can't judge but is Pryce really better than De Niro? Pryce is in NO way better than DeNiro/Bale/Sandler/Murphy. Don't care for Egerton.

You can't say that for JLo. J-Lo had too much baggage - as a celebrity with a mediocre film career who has contributed little to the industry. And her glam role in Hustlers wasn't that much of a stretch.
At least Sylvester Stallone contributed more to films, but his reputation as a mediocre actor is what cost him the win.

Sly starred in a Best Picture winner and it was pretty much his baby. López has Jersey Girl lol

Murphy was done dirty this season And the Dolemite couldn't even get in for costume design. Ridiculous It was always going to be Netflix's 4th priority, and 2 Netflix actors made it in. Even De Niro was probably ahead of him.

I don't really think she'll try unfortunately, but I kept thinking during awards season that she could wind up similar to Matthew McConaughey in that he got a lot of raves and attention for critics for Magic Mike. I think he still had too much baggage plus the film to be nominated though which is probably what happened to Lopez. Then, the next year he was able to break through, and if Lopez continued with her momentum, I think she could be nominated too.

JLO not getting in.....thanks...sorry but I could not handle divaness. Well, she can still win the Indie Award as a consolation price... Unless they decide to give it to Shuzhen Zhao 😁

McConaughey also flipped with the switch with Dallas Buyer's Club - where he lost a lot of weight and submerged himself into a non matinee idol role - and showed himself to be a serious actor.
I don't know of J-Lo is willingly to do whatever it takes for the right role. Even on recent red carpets she seems more interested in her celebrity.

So Laura Dern is at risk, right? Can Scarlett win this? Or is Renee at risk?
