Fnck this movie - the Globes have made me sorta hate it in one day - and I did like it too.......... but it does not deserve a screenplay nod and like I've said no screenplay, acting, editing nod means no best picture win .....and it doesn't deserve to win BP.......it's a stunt film, a good one but....... So all the biggies but misses those 3.......giving this a screenplay nod is a way to stack the deck for a BP win and as the kids say these days.......I can't even. Doesn't change anything in my predictions. I still think it's only getting in for BP and BD above the line and the techs are unaffected.

I think it's so interesting you keep using the phrase "a stunt film" while championing a movie that relies on a similar sort of gimmick in order to work.

I think it's so interesting you keep using the phrase "a stunt film" while championing a movie that relies on a similar sort of gimmick in order to work. I think it's interesting that the phrase "stunt film" could apply to a ton of 2019 films - including my number 1 (Irishman), my number 3 (Parasite), The Lighthouse (in my top 10), 1917 (not in my top 10 but liked it), Jojo Rabbit (hated it)........and many more actually. It's not inherently a put down and in The Irishman's case it uses its stunt for a greater thematic effect - not so 1917 - which uses its for verisimilitude only. Quite a difference......ymmv

Well I've seen the film - to me it deserves none of those so why don't we just wait until the day after the Oscars to be safe....... What fun is THAT? But yeah to your point it has a screenplay shot ...........no one here has been able to confirm that a film without editing/acting/screenplay has ever won.........thought we had some trivia peeps on here wtf people......

You are trying to say that it won't win cause it has no screenplay/edting/acting nods but that hasn't happened... lmao. All I'm saying is you can bash it chances if it doesn't get those nods. As of right now, it is chugging right along and is co frontrunner with Once.

Yup, it hasn't happened and that's exactly what I'm saying...................but meanwhile you are doing the exact same thing: YOU are saying it's a co frontrunner with a film that definitely is getting acting, editing AND screenplay nods.............so I guess I should say lmao right because how are they " co front runners" other than you just randomly saying it. Nice that we could make each other laugh though

It's still not getting any screenplay or acting nods at the Oscars imo. And I doubt the acting branch (the largest branch) will be crazy about this movie.

Only 2 movies have won Best Picture in the past 20 years without any acting nominations, by my count. And it's very unlikely that 1917 gets one at the Oscars. It can still win Best Picture without an acting nomination, but I think it definitely needs a Screenplay nomination to pull that off.
