Scorsese or Mann.........these two represent the importance of the actor rivalry - all the great ones have it and sometimes you get it among multiple actors (the 70s US guys all are rivals, or Olivier and his rivals in the UK).
These guys would be a different combination than what you just saw in OUATIH - I don't think they could "hang out".......these two would face off.

I can see PTA, Inarritu, O. Russell, Soderbergh, Boyle, Chazelle, Mangold, Villeneuve making it happen.

It's gotta be PTA ... a lot like Scorsese directing both De Niro (the generational great actor he has several successful collaborations with already) and Pacino (the generational great actor he's never worked with that people have always wanted to see) in a way.

Mann would be ideal. Definitely not PTA.

Shelly Saltman on the left, major sports promoter (namely Muhammad Ali) who also co-funded Evel's Snake River Canyon jump and worked the circuit for months including meeting and recording Evel and his lifestyle, and then published that book - after which Evel attacked Saltman with an aluminum bat. Saltman took to court and was ultimately rewarded over $12 mil. Now that book was optioned by Paramount and they wanted Scorsese/Leo already - I think it's a great role for Leo and only until now realized Joaquin could play Saltman - even looks like him enough - and that it'd totally work, drama or comedy, with anyone be it Scorsese, Inarritu, or.... Michael Mann, Kathryn Bigelow, Bennett Miller, hell the Safdies........

Keep in mind, Leo will not willingly work with either scrubs or minor indie-world directors. Types like Lynne Ramsay or Mike Mills aren't happening under any circumstance, so it's more up to a major director who has an interest in Joaquin and Leo to make it happen.

If someone who hasn't directed either of them before: David Fincher
If someone who has directed either of them before: Paul Thomas Anderson

Yeah see that is why I dislike Leo when it comes down to making a choice on a project. He never takes an opportunity/chance to do an indie/small budget film (still not seen Don’s Plum). If I remember correctly, he almost did take the lead role in Out of the Furnace. Not sure if Scott Cooper was the original director. Might have been Ridley Scott? No idea.
