This is the closest I could find to the Meryl Streep "Star For the 80s" - but it will do: Nov 5th, 2012 - he had just 2 Oscars (Um).......he was just 55..........and in just 2 more roles, 1 more Oscar winning, he'd be gone, just like that. So who do you see getting this honor/burden next - look ahead a bit - do not do that stupid sh it people always do on here - "I'm waiting until precursors before making my predictions!" - WTF people anybody can do that . Here's the catch: No old dudes allowed - but someone who when they eventually get to 55 could fill this cover slot - so look ahead - it's not is Phoenix better than DiCaprio in 2019 but will Gosling or Driver be better than both of them! Some daring picks/explanations encouraged......

I'll wager that Gosling will be widely considered the best actor born in the 80s onward, if he continues acting.

Of course this kind of discussion might lend itself to always picking a British actor where there's less arguments inherent there in terms of the film industry as there is in the US - that certainly helped Day-Lewis out I'd say and........I mean Ben Whishaw or someone like that too could be the beneficiary of that intangible too.
He starts a new decade right on on the cusp of turning 40 with very recent acclaim and some big work likely to come his way too....

Christian Bale without a doubt. Ultimately, he's bound to come across an iconic role like that in a great prestige film (true greatness never required in these situations) and get that cover. I can definitely see it happening in the next ten years; he'll only be 46 in another month!

There is a "fact" that I always post that shows just how right you are: There has never been a British actor who has won two Oscars where one is for Lead except Daniel Day-Lewis.......so otherwise, if you are British and have multiple wins (Caine, Ustinov) .........you are playing in the Supporting category.
No one is in a position to break that barrier like Bale is - winning a 2nd Oscar, one for Lead seems a matter of time only for him .Now of course if Anthony Hopkins won a 2nd Oscar - he would do it too, lots of guys "could" do it theoretically - but Bale with his age, acclaim and project choice is on a different level of opportunity to do so.

Totally. And every awards season I sense his fast approaching the level of acclaim, respect and nomination-happy attitude from his own industry that we associate with people like Streep and DDL. Even in this season, even if he ends up not nommed, we know he will be strongly in contention until the academy's voting period ends!

I know I'm breaking the rules but at this rate I expect Willem Dafoe to be getting those covers 10 years from now. His career right now feels "younger" than the career of any young actor at the moment if that makes any sense--one bold, daring, "avant-garde" project after another... If he wasn't 64 years old you'd think he was just getting started. I'm much more excited to find out where he goes from here than I am about any of these young dudes tbh.

Every year I feel like Dafoe will finally get his due, but the films underperform. Waiting for that perfect marriage between project prestige, role prominence and the ever fully present Dafoe!
