Mary Magdalene is his #1 with Nov 24th release
Current War has Dec 22nd release
I had a feeling Current War would be disappointing after reading the script
Wind River set for August

I can already see the Magdalene controversy brewing.

Rooney coming for that 3rd nom. It's inevitable. She has like 500 films coming out this year lol.

I really don't have much trust in Mary Magdalene, very surprised they picked it as their #1 and not The Current War.

Oh, I definitely think this movie will receive massive backlash, but perhaps it's baity and emotional enough for Weinstein to gamble on

Oh, I definitely think this movie will receive massive backlash, but perhaps it's baity and emotional enough for Weinstein to gamble on We'll see… I think Mara has a good shot for a nom tho. Im not predicting her yet, but I do, too Right now I have: 1) Streep, The Post- duh 2) Dench, Victoria and Abdul- Frears and Focus bait 3) Winslet, Wonder Wheel- said to be a showy Woody Allen return 4) Chastain, Molly's Game- losing faith but its a showy role with tons of monologues 5) Lawrence, mother!- film might be messy or weird but she's a proven Academy darling alt: 6) Mara, Mary Magdalene- Weinstein's #1, baity biopic but could receive backlash 7) Stone, Battle of Sexes- afterglow nom, good reviews from screenings, but how will Searchlight push this 8) McDormand, Three Billboards- veteran actress, showy role, good screening reaction but could be dismissed if Searchlight doesnt push 9) Robbie, i Tonya- Ingenune and showy role, but how will critics react to an odd script 10) Mirren, The Leisure Seeker- SPC, crowdpleasing potentially, but how will it get pushed and received POSSIBILITIES: Berry, King; McCarthy, Can You Ever Forgive me NO DISTRIBUTION: Bening, Ronan, Close

Yeah, after this skipped TIFF (where Lion was runner-up last year) the writing was on the wall. I thought Weinstein might switch it with Current War and move it to Christmas, but he made the right call. Not something that happens very often these days.
Speaking of which, will someone finally put Tulip Fever out of its misery? Poor thing was testing back in 2014 and it's still getting pushed back.

I finally saw a trailer for Tulip Fever when I saw Wind River and couldn't stop shaking my head. It looks so much like a Jimmy Kimmel parody.
