If John Carpenter and Alejandro Jodorowsky decided to watch Cannibal Holocaust for 24 hours non-stop, Alex DeLarge-style, and then set off to a small Brazilian village to make an adaptation of The Most Dangerous Game with Udo Kier, you still wouldn't come close to how delightfully batshit this movie is. It's too strange for its own good, I think, but it was really quite a mesmerizing experience.

She was good with what she was given, but I don't think any of the actors really stood out, but I think that was by design. Also I fucking loved that mullet guy. Best character of 2019 right there.

So great that you liked it. The best thing about Bacurau is that it's impossible to explain or describe to someone without seeming as if you're just making this whole film up. It's really unique and special.

Best character of 2019 right there. Braga didn’t have a lot of screen time but she had the bigger impact on me out of the cast, she excelled in her more mannered and over the top scenes, such as the drunk scene, but i also loved her more silent moments. The mullet guy is amazing too, loved the scene where him and Pacote meet again, and Entre as Hortencias in the background was top notch.

It's really unique and special. It feels like a movie that was made in 1982 and then just got buried in a vault somewhere and was unearthed by people performing a bust on a Colombian drug czar's hideout. Even now, I'm not sure I saw what I saw.

You guys are really overselling how unique it is. Stephen's description does indeed promise an awesome-sounding movie but I actually found the thing itself to be a bit too straightforward for its own good. I mean, the events unfold in a pretty simple sequence, hitting all the expected beats. The film does of course try to more esoteric but I just kept longing for more.

Missed it at NYFF due to inconvenient times. Pity; I'm sure this would be a blast with a big crowd. But it'll be out here soon enough.
