seriously need to revisit the 90s. Not crazy about this year.
1. Sense and Sensibility (Ang Lee) 2. Safe (Todd Haynes) 3. Clean, Shaven (Lodge Kerrigan) 4. Before Sunrise (Richard Linklater) 5. Apollo 13 (Ron Howard) 6. Leaving Las Vegas (Mike Figgis) 7. Dead Man Walking (Tim Robbins) 8. Twelve Monkeys (Terry Gilliam) 9. Casino (Martin Scorsese) 10. Party Girl (Daisy von Scherler Mayer)
only really attached to the top four, with Apollo 13 being a childhood favorite that has stood up quite well (and it's the only Howard film I've ever been able to return to again and again). I'm sure I'll do some work on the 90s next year. Undeground came to Kanopy a few weeks ago so I'm definitely going to be watching that.

The melodrama is more restrained, in fact resembles a lot of what he’s been doing the last few years but the difference is that still has the absurdist tone that is such a pleasure to experience. Marisa Paredes is my ultimate Almodovar lady, particularly in this film she reminds me a lot of Bette Davis, she has such gusto delivering her lines, one that I always think of is “No sé escribir novela rosa, me sale negra. Lo intento, pero cada página me sale más negra” . It is tragic and absurd at the same time ❤️ it !

The reminded of a Luis Bunuel character... formidable and perverse.

1. Crumb 2. Casino 3. Leaving Las Vegas 4. Nixon 5. Get Shorty 6. Toy Story 7. The Usual Suspects 8. Heat 9. Dead Man Walking 10. Before Sunrise
Terrific year for Cinema!! But, then again, so were most years in the 90's. A wondrous, groundbreaking, and, to this day, far too underrated decade for film. The folks who made the magnificent ode to 70's filmmaking documentary A Decade Under the Influence should consider doing a sequel about the 90's.
