Wait, isn't Jon Peters the guy Pamela Anderson married for like a week?

What I said earlier - if Cooper gets a double nod he's more likely to win Supporting than lead since Smith and Washington have an overriding narrative. That has never happened for a male before (Pacino / Foxx)
I am kind of sick of the trailer because I watched the pirated version a million times but that's a great and gorgeously composed trailer. I mean the framing of his shots is nearly peerless......
Also Haim evokes her acting in The Wire video by the band ......she's born to play this or at least from that video half of it

Penn will get the nomination, if it's well received by the Academy, also as a way to reward him for his mini-comeback. Cooper just did his "American Hustle" schtick in one scene in the trailer, nothing new or interesting.

Alana Haim (despite being 30 and not distracting like Ben Platt...) looks like the most interesting part. I also quite like the cinematography but I'm also not entirely what sure about this whole affair.
A Little Romance meets Inherent Vice?

Looking forward to it. Such a contrast to something like Phantom Thread which is pretty much a perfect movie to me.

Is this the origin of why Peters wanted Sean Penn to play Superman?

Really don't think Penn's part is going to be that big, otherwise he would have been in the trailer more. All you see is him in the background in the one scene and yelling on the motorcycle which looked like he might have been filming a movie within the movie. I'm assuming he's just a big movie star in Peters's movie and he makes passes at the girl and she uses him to make the guy jealous.

OMG I can't wait I loved this trailer. Bradley looks bonkers and the trailer gave me Boogie Nights vibes. Bring it on, Paul!

After watching it a couple more times I'm starting to get excited. I think the thing that puts so many people off PTA is that the characters in his movies are so heightened and don't resemble actual human behavior. I'm trying to keep my expectations under control here, given the standard PTA has set post TWBB this could be a good, solid movie that I'd be happy with from most any other director but still be underwhelming.
Despite kind of expecting to be a little disappointed (by the law of averages it seems like he has to come back to earth at some point and can't continue making things as good as TWBB, The Master, and Phantom Thread indefinitely) this is still my most anticipated of the year just because of what it could mean if it turns out to be great again. PTA really feels like the only person (whether it be movies, music or literature) doing all time tier work right now. There hasn't been a movie I'd call unequivocally great since Phantom Thread.

I disagree. The reason why so many people are apathetic about PTA is because his movies rarely have good stories/narratives, and I'll be pleasantly surprised if Licorice Pizza bucks the trend. TWBB vs. NCFOM is a classic example of this. NCFOM is so damn riveting and entertaining, aside from the technical mastery on display; doesn't matter that the Coens are as capable of being up their ass as PTA (see Hail Caesar!), they're also capable of stone-cold brilliance as they demonstrated in that film. TWBB is just technical wankery. PTA has had trouble writing compelling drama after blowing his load with Boogie Nights.

Could have chosen a shot for the thumbnail where Alana was looking a little less cold...

I have this weird pet peeve about movie trailers who use songs and match each shot to each lyric in the most obvious way. Example: A line in the song about a dog: *cut to a shot of a dog*. I'm just fooling around a little. I absolutely look forward to this. We've got personal significance in Paul Thomas Anderson going back to the 70s and his home. There is obviously something warming about seeing Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son. I do hope Bradley Cooper and Sean Penn aren't going to give annoyingly hammy supporting performances (btw who would have thought Jon Peters would be a character in any movie except for a Barbra Streisand biopic? ) I think if there is some authenticity to the young couple at the center, that will be the glue for this movie because people will find that refreshing and it will resonate.

Huh, so if that's accurate, I guess House of Gucci probably is the 3hr one.

Okay, so that's probably not right. I just checked Nightmare Alley and it says the same runtime. EDIT: Just checked King Richard, says same thing. IMDB has that one at 2:18
