p well done tbh
i don't think, in concept, memes are anything new. but the way they've accelerated and decompressed throughout the internet isn't something i think anyone could have accurately predicted. while the episode in question is more relevant now than in '99, i can't say that the astonishing thing about memes is that they complete the "joke circle" (where i'm pretty sure most inside jokes between friends tend to stay soundly within), but more their dominant geo-political force and propagation.
but i'm rambling
