Idk how they'll turn out but Chris Rock has three very different and for him surprising projects coming up - starring in S4 Fargo which usually (haven't seen S3) gets the best from its actors, playing Javier Bardem's lover in the indie Molly, and he's pitched/starring in a Saw "reboot" bound to make money at the box-office. Just saying, he's gonna be 55y/o and I kinda like these choices that might shake up how we see him as an actor. Not even a big fan - but I do like his stand up enough and recently Top Five was a solid, generous perf/movie.
another, Ana de Armas - big Bond role and Marilyn Monroe, some other indie/Netflix stuff around it too. Could become one of the most in-demand actresses soon, I'll add, if Blonde is a success, and I'm leaning yes, bc of Dominik.....
Who else? Someone under the radar or even awards-wise like Pacino...!

I haven't been as taken with Jessie Buckley as others have so far but she has a plum role in the Netflix film I'm Thinking Of Ending Things co-starring Jesse Plemons which I could see becoming a big pop culture thing actually (or frankly it could be a mess, lol) - Toni Colette is in it also.
Next year's Pacino/De Niro awards wise I think will be two females Blanchett/McDormand having "re-breakout" years. The former has 2 big roles - one on TV (Mrs. America) and Nightmare Alley while McDormand has 3 interesting to say the least projects - the Wes Anderson (small role?), the new ChloƩ Zhao film as a baity lead and um.......Macbeth!

Tom Burke, who gave one of the great undersung performances of the year as the posh, sardonic, quietly self-destructing junkie boyfriend in Joanna Hogg's The Souvenir, has the lead next year in Alan Moore's first feature length screenplay, The Show. Plus he's been (ideally) cast as the young Orson Welles in Fincher's Herman Mankiewicz film, Mank. Between those two and the likelihood of some UK award love for his Souvenir performance in the coming months, 2020 is definitely looking like a break out year for him.

I believe I read somewhere that McDormand plays one the major roles in the Anderson flick. So yeah, we should expect another nod for her!

Morfydd Clark. She's pretty much unknown right now,but next year she's appearing in,His Dark Materials,Saint Maud,Dracula(BBC)with Claes Bang,The Personal History of David Copperfield and Eternal beauty. It should,in theory,be a big breakout year for her.

Just going down this list; although it doesn't have every film that's coming out next year listed yet. Actors that will breakout or continue breaking out:-Yifei Liu - Mmm, a little bit doubtful even though Mulan should still do well even with reshoots, but I doubt most Americans will care about Liu's comments. -Florence Pugh - She has Black Widow, and could maybe be the scene stealer in that. -Gal Gadot - Obviously Wonder Woman 1984 is going to be huge for her, but she also has two other films that should do well and hopefully Death on the Nile will showcase another side to her for general audiences. -Pedro Pascal - He has The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984. -Yahya Abdul-Mateen II - I wasn't impressed with him at all in Aquaman, but maybe that's because it had too many villains. Anyhow he has Candyman and The Trial of the Chicago 7, so he's in a great position if both projects do well. -Anthony Ramos - Maybe the film adaptation of In the Heights will do for him what A Star Is Born didn't. -John David Washington/Elizabeth Debicki - Tenet will be huge. -Anya Taylor-Joy/Thomasin McKenzie - Should at least be good critics wise, I'm not sure commercially although Wright does have a small following right now. -Jeremy Strong - The Trial of the Chicago 7 could be big awards wise. -Skeet/Ulrich/Caleb Landry Jones? - All I see is that Tom Hanks has a robot movie coming out, so maybe one of his supporting stars can get some good ink. -Max Harwood/Richard E. Grant - Everybody's Talking About Jamie might be an awards contender. Has a good release date, and seems like a feelgood hit. -Almost everyone in Eternals who isn't Angelina Jolie. -Dune - Similar to Eternals, should help a lot of actors who are still struggling to breakthrough all the way like Rebecca Ferguson. -West Side Story - Similar to Eternals and Dune in that there it should help a lot of unknown actors especially Rachel Zegler who was cast as Maria. People that have already broken out:-Matthew McConaughey - I don't expect much from The Gentlemen, but Guy Ritchie does have his fans, maybe a comeback for McConaughey. -Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Maybe The Trial of the Chicago 7 can get his film career back on track. -Anne Hathaway - I thought maybe Dark Waters would be a comeback of sorts, but it doesn't seem like it. I don't really trust Robert Zemeckis anymore, but this feels like perfect casting. -Angelina Jolie - I guess Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will do okay internationally, but Eternals should put her back on top again. -Abigail Breslin - I wasn't sure what category to put her in because she didn't really make a successful transition from child to older actress, but she has a chance to do so again with Stillwater. -Will Smith - Hopefully King Richard can show audiences that he could excel at drama too.

I'm really looking forward to Angelina's comeback in 2020.
After Maleficent, she has already filmed two movies that can make her a star again but especially Eternals is the one I'm betting it will do the job.
After all those ups and downs in her career and personal life, she deserves to be back on track.

Might amount to nothing much but I didn't realize Michael Caine - going to be 87 very soon - has six movies in post, probably to be released this year. First up a Peter Pan prequel premiering at Sundance, a role in Tenet, playing Fagin in an update on Oliver Twist, a period action-epic called Medieval, some fantasy-family pic with Russell Brand, moving on, and hello - starring in Best Sellers, a road-trip movie as a cranky old writer opposite Aubrey Plaza. Not bad for the ol' chap.......
