This has low-key become maybe the most quotable movie of the year on movie forums, right? I read, "It's what it is," and, "You might be demonstrating a failure to show appreciation," a lot. IM DONE TALKING ABOUT THIS

Rewatched it last night... Loved it even more on a 2nd viewing . Still the best film of 2019 in my eyes and in my Top 10 of greatest films of 10's. Marty, you're a freaking God among men.

Alright, I'm finally going to weigh in on this. Went to see this the week before Netflix release, haven't seen it since and I loved it. It was pretty difficult to grasp on Marty's choices of when this beast picked up and slowed and eventually ended. I sort of understand the criticisms of Frank's character of just being a blank slate and not adding to the story, but to quote Matt Damon in FvF "he's a puppy-dog". He is actually only given one choice in the film and that's to join Bufalino or not before and after that he is a yes sir guy. You may be thinking I'm just giving more points to further this argument, but the fact that every historical event portrayed is a pulled string rather than happenstance makes sense for Frank to be that representation. Marty isn't trying to tell the story of the mobster heads or the guys pulling strings imo, he's telling the story of the effects of these actions on those actually reliant on specific outcomes. And ending it with Frank in his lonesome, reflecting, wondering what should have been was the perfect way to end it.
Performances are stellar, Pacino & Pesci are operating on a whole different level than anyone else. The shopkeeper scene had me in stitches how silly that looked. And I'm not going to comment on the de-aging because that was a couple weeks before I got glasses and I really needed them then. - 10/10 level stuff, although I'm much more generous with 10s than most here

I’m a week out from wheeling out my personal lineups, and I still haven’t gotten around to this because I’ve been busy (breezy or not, three and a half hours is daunting). So I’m gonna try and watch it tonight. Hope I like it.

There’ll be plenty of “expected” nods, but there’ll also be some that I think’ll surprise folks (hopefully pleasantly).

So I’m finally off to bed, but before I do, I got to say... this thing moves. At one point, I did get sleepy (not the movie’s fault), and I was worried I wasn’t gonna finish it. But I checked the time, and I was shocked that there was only 20 minutes left.
So, yeah. It’s still a LONG movie you have to brace for, but I was enthralled.

If I do have to make one tiny little nit-pick, though, I wish Marty had reshot *that* scene. I wish he’d reshot it with a professional stunt guy with De Niro’s face, because it’s the one bit that took me out of the film.
EDIT: I fully expect pitchforks aimed at me.

Youtube version: Absolutely awesome to watch. Scorsese can't contain his excitement during some of Pacino's line readings... and I'm glad that big scene didn't take place in the bathroom.
