This site clocked screen-times... Didn't think about it before - but I think I would've put Pesci down for over an hour, he feels so present throughout .

Just like to say that it's very cool and refreshing for different points of view on this movie to be shared without attacking each other Anyway, Bill Simmons on his Ringer podcast shared his view on the movie that more closely aligns with my side of the isle. He's super irreverent but very intelligent and a guy whose commentary on pop culture I got a lot of time for. His basic gist is that the movie is too long, and does not need to be and doesn't justify it. He feels it happened because Netflix didn't put any sort of restrictions that regular studios have put on Scorsese over the years, and that Scorsese actually needs those frameworks in place or he'll get indulgent. He doesn't find DeNiro particularly believable, and thinks Pacino is doing nothing he hasn't done many times before from Scent Of A Woman onwards, and his performance pales compared to his best work. Simmons and the other guy on his podcast both agree that Joe Pesci was wonderful. Overall thinks the movie is fine, but nothing special, and should come nowhere near a Best Picture Oscar.

I'm very happy you've found so many people on the internet to validate your opinion since that's clearly something you need, for whatever reason.

Check out the based takes in the comment section for that shitshow video. Good stuff. Bill Simmons has always been a buffoon... and his podcast guest here is.... none other than Jimmy Kimmel's Cousin Sal.

I'm very happy you've found so many people on the internet to validate your opinion since that's clearly something you need, for whatever reason. I actually did it because someone a few posts above mine posted a YouTube video about someone's thoughts on The Irishman. No one complained, and I actually thought it was a worthy addition to the thread, even though I disagreed with many of the points made in the video. It's really sad when people are this sensitive, that anything that goes against their world view causes them to lash out. We are all adults here (or I'd hope so). We don't have to like the same shit It doesn't speak well of anyone who can't handle opposing points of view, imho.

This movie doesn't even exist for me until Joe Carnahan tweets about it.

Or, there are people like me who fall in between that think that while it's a great movie, that's all it is because it's got clear flaws that prevent it from being a masterpiece. Anybody that needlessly exaggerates and/or generalizes to act out on their butthurt is an idiot that shouldn't be taken seriously.

That piece is bullshit. Mainly because the columnist is politically motivated. If you look at her other pieces, she's a "rah-rah Trump supporter", and it's clear she has an axe to grind against DeNiro as someone who publicly loathes Trump. There are valid critiques of The Irishman out there, but when it's politically motivated, we can all tune out.

Finally had time to watch this bad boy and it didn't disappoint, in fact it surpassed my expectations! The 3 leads were all top notch (had no worries about De Niro & Pacino delivering the goods ) but I was pleasantly surprised by Pesci . I was sorta worried he'd be a little rusty but he wasn't at all. Great subdued performance all around.
So many good moments mixed in with some great dialogue/acting its not even funny.
9/10

.............and it's been still less than a week since it premiered on Netflix (!?!), its roll hasn't even really begun or peaked ...........and you can clearly see already how it has fncked with peoples heads and that includes Simmons and film twitter etc. which of course literally are fnckheads.

Pesci wins Best Supporting Actor At NYFCC’s. The only other actor to win twice is Nicholson.

This is an interesting take. generally yeah and the story of her anxiety is more fundamentally interesting than mob story #85923 even if #85923 has him feeling guilty afterwards. but i mean there is way more i didn't like about it otherwise, and while it did look pretty bad i know scorsese can definitely deliver sometimes, just not this one it seems

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this film for weeks now. The mundane nature of the violence, quick and brutal, and its effect on both the victim’s family and the perpetrator’s. How Sheeran treats his horrifying actions like a job and feels detached from them until forced to reckon with how they’ve slowly contributed to his emptiness and isolation. It’s truly monumental stuff and a deserving winner of all these Best Film awards (where was this energy when Roma was sweeping everything last year?!)

Thought it was great, but I do have to ask, couldn't Scorsese have thrown Paul Sorvino a bone by letting him play "Fat Tony" rather than aging up Domenick Lombardozzi?
