This is some great casting.I'm a huge fan of the original film so I can't wait to see how this turns out, and who's going to play Dickie and Marge etc.

Well it's tricky because he's just playing Ripley right - who spans across several novels not just the Talented Mr. Ripley story.
Those books are unique because Talented Mr Ripley alone gave us 2 great, unique movies and there's arguably a whole other better movie on a different story than both in Wenders' The American Friend and another pretty good separate film on that too with Malkovich.......I mean it's kind of amazing that character can go so far across so many different stories. I think there's 5 books.......

Really excited to see another Ripley story. Especially with Scott as the lead. I'm not sure he's the perfect casting choice but as a fan I keep my hopes up!

Only seen him in Fleabag and the Black Mirror ep but I really don’t like him. He’s annoying to me and likes to overplay every beat. Don’t get the appeal...
but I’ll probably still be watching for Zaillian - who can be a terrific writer and he’s an underrated director, Night Of was controlled, and I really like his Bobby Fischer debut.

I'm thinking the woman in my avatar would be perfect for Marge. .And maybe Harris Dickinson for Dickie.

Dakota Fanning as Marge.I would've preferred Elle, but I'm ok with this. Marge has to go cray cray so she will be believable. Of course, I think you're right, Elle can sell upper crust better than Dakota.

Dakota is really good on The Alienist and sells a fine patrician vibe on that show. I dig it.
Still wish this were a gender-flipped version of Ripley and Rooney was playing the role, but I'll take what I can get.

They should have released this sooner for Andrew Scott's nomination. I am confident that Jodie Foster and Annette Bening were helped by True Detective S4.

This actually looked better before I think: Zaillian is a great writer - his Irishman script is incredibly sharp and loaded with detail - he REALLY got robbed - but the Ripley story really seems ill-suited to a weekly show .......I mean the whole thing about Ripley is he can only keep it going so long which is the difference between his story in Ripley books vs films.........in films it would seem to strain believability to prolong the character juggling plates repeatedly....... Delon (definitive) and even Damon (great, for him at least) were always at risk of fncking up - it's what made the character ..........in this trailer Scott looks too.......triumphant ........maybe it's just the trailer ........fingers crossed

I liked this fine, exquisitely shot, so beautifully presented Italy, made me want to visit there even more now. But I think I would have enjoyed it more had I not seen the 1999 film, which imo is just perfect. I was having a hard time seeing Andrew Scott as Ripley in the first episode but he was pretty effective eventually, Dakota Fanning was really good as well. But yeah, it doesn't touch the Matt Damon film, especially its wonderful iconic cast (Jude Law's Dickie alone trumps everyone in this). Also, where is all the gayness?

Thought Scott's casting was stupid, though he was very good, and the B&W took a little bit to get used to, but works wonderfully once you do. I didn't really like the finale and thought it was the low point of the thing, but for 7 episodes I thought this was spectacular. What slick fucking filmmaking from top to bottom.

Is it just me or does Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley look eerily similar to Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates ?
