Don't know what to think about it. Looks good but this plot, we've seen it many times before.

I had heard so many bad things about this, and sure this is unoriginal and cliched... but *dang* does it work in the niche it carves out! It is so refreshing to see an action movie that doesn't feel like a power fantasy. The fights look like real people actually getting hurt, actually struggling with pain. And that translates to the cliched (but no less effective) narrative: there is no triumph here, just pain and hatred and self-loathing as Stephanie gets further into the job.
I have held for a while that Blake Lively is one of the best actors around, and she nails this part. Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown are also pitch perfect in their respective roles. I didn't like the bus scene, as it was the one time in the movie that I couldn't tell what was going on. Aside from that, though... this is great.

Heh, I just learned that during the Lively/Law one take fight that Lively broke her hand punching Law. That doesn't surprise me at all: the fights in this show people hitting with genuine force and ferocity. Also, Lively looked to be in serious pain by the end of that fight. Turns out she wasn't faking it.

It's a decent film isn't it?.Critics absolutely slaughtered it but I really liked it.Totally agree about Blake Lively, she's an excellent and highly underrated actress. She was fantastic in A Simple Favour and The Age of Adaline.

Well damn, you actually made me want to see this now. That being said, I think Lively is one of the absolute worst actresses working today and am doubtful this will prove me wrong, but will give it a shot.

Well, I'm completely alone in my love for this movie, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/review-blake-lively-gives-the-performance-of-a-lifetime-in-rhythm-section29% RT is harsh, but LaSalle really loved it ^ I saw this in theaters (possibly the last time before covid) and thought it was a solidly fun b movie with a badass Blake Lively perf - showing a total willingness and toughness here. And those fight scenes are awesomely messy and palpable. Otherwise it's ok, smartly sticks close to Lively even while it narratively shrinks and its logic goes berserk. I think I would've showed up to the sequel we'll never get. One of my friends jokes that this movie did so badly bc nobody knew how to spell rhythm to find it.
