* People who say after a national tragedy (like this week in Texas) that "we need to act, now! - enough with the thoughts and prayers!" are wrong. However well intentioned they may be, "thoughts and prayers" should always be our first reaction actually. Politics, yes eventually.....policy, yes absolutely, and quickly.......but "thoughts and prayers" too.........and always imo....... first.... * If my favorite actor didn't want to do an element of his craft - ie they said they just gave up on doing movies, or just refuse TV, or just say "No!" to doing stage work I'd say "that's sad, but whatever" - however it is in no way "cool", or a badge of honor to not do work that has the potential to be great. * I eat Frosted Flakes at least as much as Kellogg's Corn Flakes - though on some level at least Frosted Flakes are an ineptly sweetened, child's version of Corn Flakes - that just speaks to my own laziness and stubborness really.......

“Thoughts and prayers” is an absolute crock of shit response to a mass shooting in 2022 America.

The thing is, this happens so often that it's hard to even "send thoughts and prayers" anymore. There will just be another in a day or two, and we aren't endless empathy machines, no matter how the best of us try to be. A single incident is a tragedy, but now it's just... business. You just hear that there has been another mass shooting, you shrug, you move on. If there are so many of these that it becomes impossible for the first reaction to be thoughts and prayers, that means we have a problem that is not being solved by them.

Understandable......but wrong imo. There will not be "just another in a day or two" for Uziyah Garcia or Eliahna “Ellie” Garcia or any of the children killed on Tuesday. They deserve FOR ONE SECOND to have thoughts and prayers for them first........to RIP.......that's not being an "endless empathy machine" (wtf) that's being human and compassionate and if you're a person of faith......essential.....necessary Everybody can go back to thinking about what a shitty world we live in in the very NEXT second........but for that first second - thoughts, and prayers. But like I said, I do get it........it's just MY Random Thought thread post.....ymmv........

But like I said, I do get it........it's just MY Random Thought thread post.....ymmv........ Moments of silence and tweets sending out thoughts for the families all happen. They are happening right this moment. The thing that doesn't happen is any course of action from our elected officials for whom "thoughts and prayers" has become a substitute for even having the discussion of how to prevent these tragedies in the future. If Congress met next week and discussed any way to prevent just-turned-18-year-old from purchasing a semi-automatic rifle and walking into an elementary school to kill 21 people while cops sit outside and do nothing but threaten terrified parents, I can assure you that would not mean the thoughts and prayers come to a screeching halt. That first second keeps happening, and the next second never does. That's where the frustration over "thoughts and prayers" comes from.

Unless they’re reaching out to God directly*, the thoughts and prayers aren’t doing much aside from a Hallmark card saying “Sorry for your loss.” But yes, if God can move forward, that would be sweet.

We Latinos should be given a free pass to assault anyone who calls us Latinx. Only white liberals use that term and the majority of us Latinos are actually beginning to regard it as a racial slur

I just hope nobody will ever call me latinx or italianx.

* The outfits - and shoes worn by female Fox News anchors are hilariously over the top professional call girl-ish - impossibly tight, with strategical rips etc. Not only are they hotter than their more liberal counterparts.........they know it too.....especially Emily Compagno who I think is practically laughing about her hotness every day.... * Screeching Weasel has a new song out.........it's quite good...........and really well written because Ben Weasel has written more good songs in his genre than just about anyone else has in their's......no one cares because he's a jerk and his music genre is pretty marginalized ......but....still...... * Why do people say stupid stuff like "why can you buy a gun at 18 but have to be 21 to buy a drink?" - Because one is a constitutional right and the other is a mere privilege. I have heard this argument for several days in a row on TV and people are like "I dunno why that is!"- it's stupid, yes.......but come on - stop playing dumb. * McDonald's has ruined their apple pie dessert......there is not anything to do with an apple, a pie or a dessert about that thing nowadays. It is actually worse than it was just a few months ago.... * Mick Mars of Motley Crue turned 71 last month - 71? Robert Plant for example is 73 and he was around in the 1960s ffs.....it seems .....weirdly odd .....

I saw this Harry Potter meme that said Voldemort is bald because he doesn’t want people to use his hair in Polyjuice Potion and impersonate him. This got me wondering... assuming that were true, would that mean Voldemort also shaves his pubes? Does he even have pubes, or is he smooth as a baby down there? I guess there’s a chance one of the Death Eaters could break into Voldemort’s bathroom and search for any stray pubes on the floor or toilet seat. Unless Voldemort cleans his bathroom very frequently. He probably makes sure it’s spotless using a spell or something. Which means he might shave his head and pubes using a spell too. Though if it were me, I’d feel nervous about pointing a wand directly at my dick and balls with the intention of doing a vanishing spell of some kind. Something could go wrong. I wonder if there’s a potion for growing your own dick back, kind of like what Madam Pomfrey gave Harry when he lost all the bones in his arm in Chamber of Secrets.

He has lost part of his human shape and resembles a snake (look at his nose), like the evil snake in Heaven on earth, and snakes don't have hairs.

I beg to differ: But yes, I know that's probably not why Voldemort's bald. I just thought the meme suggesting that as a possible reason was funny, and decided to run with it.

I'm here thinking. About Alfred Hitchcock. Starting from Vertigo, he was approaching avant-garde but quickly reversed. Now I wouldn't say North by Northwest, Psycho, and The Birds were like his previous films.... but he seemed caught in the trendy products of the era that was approaching and those kinda movies were approaching trendiness.
I'm here thinking. David Lynch was pretty pop culture before Mulholland Dr. Like from 1984-1990, he was like a cult film icon and this popular culture entity known for weirdness. Dune, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, and Wild at Heart I think had more pop culture appeal than anything, and his name featured in a few magazines and referenced in a few movies/shows of the late 80s and early 90s. But starting from Mulholland Dr., he became EXTREMELY avant-garde - tho only 2 films to really say. I really don't think Mulholland Dr. is the first movie non-cinephiles think of when thinking Lynch.
Just random thought, I know what's done is done but it would be interesting to see some of Hitchcock's takes on a few subjects. There were lots of mystery men, mysterious odyssey books, or Kafka of that time period I'm sure he could have tackled that could've given off a different flair than North by Northwest. A fun movie, but at that point we were ready to see him really take the next step as a filmmaker. He really could've taken off. There is more limitations in his era from the studio tho, for sure. Not sure how much that impacted things, or were economics involved and the need to get the movies sold a bigger restraint than later on.

I don't think I know any guys irl - and I'm 286 - who don't like Chicken Parm - on the contrary - they love it or it's their favorite food.......and I can't ever remember having seen a female - and that includes a lot of Italian American females I've known over the years - ever order or eat Chicken Parm irl ....... either as a platter or even the sandwich. Conclusion: The women are poisoning the Chicken Parm

Spaghetti in the same dish as chicken? It's a dish that was invented by Italian-Americans in St. Louis in the 40s or 50s... It's an "Italian" staple in America.

Chicken parmas are fucking massive over here. They're pretty much the main pub food, and yeah, I see guys order it a lot more than girls.
Never seen it served with spaghetti though.

Parmigiana is supposed to be made with real Parmigiano Reggiano ® cheese. Parmigiano Reggiano can be made only in the provinces of Parma and Reggio Emilia, and some little areas around them, and it takes up to 3 years seasoning (even if there are even 10 years old ones). Any other cheese named parmesan that doesn't come from there is a scam.
