He received two posthumous nominations for "East of Eden" and "Giant". Thought he was great in his banner year 1955, I would have nominated him for "Rebel without a Cause" instead. But considering his age, during that time only 2 people younger than him had been nominated in the lead category.
While he's also really good in "Giant" how was that a lead role? The film is like 3 hours and 18 minutes long and I believe he has 30 minutes of screen time if that even. I also read that his final scenes were dubbed by another actor, so it wasn't all him.
So do you think his death played some part in his nominations? Thoughts?

His work in Rebel without a cause is definitely better, but I think he would've been nominated even if he didn't die

Weirdly enough the one performance from him I like all that much is Rebel Without a Cause, which is what he wasn't nominated for. Personally I didn't find him believable at all in Giant when he was supposed to be older.
