My go-to answer for this question has been Ann-Margret for several years now - stuck with the "sex symbol" label in the 60s and is perhaps best known now for her romantic connection to Elvis? I'm not sure... Unfortunate considering her talent - earthy, sensual, so full of gravitas. She is the preeminent Blanche DuBois in my opinion - absolutely the best interpretation of the character that I've personally seen - just beyond reproach. Her Oscar-nominated turns in Carnal Knowledge (Mike Nichols!) and Tommy (Ken Russell!) are also incredibly worthy of praise. As Blanche... sirjeremy - Have you ever seen Our Sons with her, Julie Andrews, and Hugh Grant?

I'd say John Cassavetes was a better actor than he was a director (not kidding) but he's more celebrated as a director now where he was also special of course. Edge of The City, Rosemary's Baby, Dirty Dozen, his Johnny Staccato TV Show, much great episodic TV including an all-time Columbo, Husbands, Mikey & Nicky......he's a tremendous actor and there's lots of small quirky gems to find like Marvin & Tige and things like that.

sirjeremy - I think so, yes. It's not great by any stretch, but the performances are so full of heart (Ann-Margret is the MVP). And Hugh Grant's American accent is actually quite good!
