Solar Walk Sleep Has Her House Three Billboards
Only 3 really great films in the last 2 years. I call myself really old and grumpy and I live in the past.

Overall it’s been a couple of lazy years but ‘18 slightly better. A few suggestions, but really depends on what you like, I already raise my brow with a couple of titles suggested, lel:
Phanthom Thread Burning Roma Loveless Happy End Three Billboards The Ballad of Buster Scruggs Detroit

you must be watching the wrong movies because 2017 and 2018 were terrific, and 2018 was one of the best years of the whole decade.

2011 and 2018 were pretty strong years. I'll agree that maybe 2012-2016 wasn't exactly the new 70's, but still it was miles ahead of the film hell that was the early 00's.

It feels pretty singular tbh. I'd recommend reading the piece on it in Cinema Scope from this month's issue. It has the breadth of Altman in terms of being a sprawling character piece but it feels wholly idiosyncratic outside some superficial comparisons. I saw Wang do a Q & A after it and he said he was pretty inspired by Out 1 and Joan the Maiden, neither of which I can speak to. I think you'd dig it.

You think the early 00s was bad? I think it's the first time I've ever heard that. What different types of films were they making back then different to now?

Wow. I just realized I haven't seen anything. I think I've been more into the documentaries or documentary series that have come out in the last year or two.
