I think this will be a fun project, but I don't think it will necessarily be one that wins awards. (I could be way off though.) Maybe like Hairspray without the random SAG Ensemble nomination, or maybe with a random SAG Ensemble nomination because of mostly Streep and Kidman.

Maybe like Hairspray without the random SAG Ensemble nomination, or maybe with a random SAG Ensemble nomination because of mostly Streep and Kidman. Not to mention, as a director Ryan Murphy isn't known for making super acclaimed films, even with all his TV success. I think the project sounds wonderful, but it's right to be skeptical that the film won't make much of a splash come award season, beyond maybe some technical noms.

Streep and Kidman would normally trigger an automatic yes, but everything else is basically a repellent. We'll have to see.

I'm really, really suspicious of Ryan Murphy, but tell me... how can I resist a LGBT/Broadway themed musical starring Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman? I can't. I just can't. I'll even overlook the underwhelming rest of the cast. God, I can't even wait for this.

Well, I'm just going to say that Streep is filler free and looks good for 71. I will not comment on any others at the moment. LMAO.

I haven't seen Cats and I should as it has some good laughs I guess (for all the wrong reasons).
But this one, I might skip with no regrets.

MORE Ryan Murphy? Dude needs to stop. The world can't take so much campy pop culture pastiche.

Looks every bit the equal of Cats ........ Meryl Streep is yet again looking marvelous - the American GOAT being the GOAT so I'm sure that justifies 90 minutes of emasculating pacinoyes, I'll leave my 'nads in my purse......and you almost can't even guess the twist in this movie is a serial killer who ruins The Prom with a bloody axe.

Man, part of me wants to root for this, given its inclusive, unabashedly positive message and of course its cast (Streep, Kidman and Key anyway), but...Murphy gonna Murphy. Looks pretty bad.

What a bunch of cynical, Grinch-like bastards on this thread Not the type of thing I'd personally run out to see, but honestly for people into this type of thing (think The Greatest Showman) it looks pretty fantastic. And I've got friends and family for whom The Greatest Showman is their go to musical these days. Really does look like a solid frothy, feelgood musical. And I enjoyed Glee for a couple of seasons till it got repetitive, and this looks sorta like a decent extended epidode of that show. Even James Corden looks passable here. Reviews could go either way, as critics can be just as cynical as this crowd when it comes to feel-good musicals ( Mama Mia and The Greatest Showman are two of the most beloved musicals of recent years by audiences are both rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Though neither had The Prom's pedigree as Tony winning musical, so that's one reason to expect critics might be kinder, despite their usual distaste for this kind of musical). But yeah, it looks ok. People who like this kind of thing, will love it. I see why Streep and Kidman did this now. This looks like the kind of musical that could develop an obsessive fanbase and have a longer life than many of their movies as a result. This is the kind of risk smart movie stars take, as even if reviews are "meh", it can ultimately do a lot for your legacy with audiences. .

Doesn’t look too bad. There’s really no buzz on this though (which is definitely weird considering the cast) and critics seem to have their knives out for Ryan Murphy these days so idk.

Early word from Variety and Deadline is this may actually be good and a Best Picture contender.
