An underrated charm bomb who has been delighting the world for over three decades now. (Note that, like the Academy after which we have modeled our personal awards, I go by US release dates - please just deal with it.) 1987: Supporting Actor, Maurice1994: Actor, Four Weddings and a Funeral2002: Actor, About a Boy2016: Actor, Florence Foster Jenkins2018: Supporting Actor, Paddington 2He's also wonderful in Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, About a Boy, etc.... So, five nominations and no wins for me - yet. How about you?

I'm a fan of the guy!!
In a world where comedies could get Oscar nods as easy as dramas, he could have gotten a few:
4 Weddings and a Funeral, Florence Foster Jenkins, About a Boy (esp. in the last two).
As for GG, he should have won more: The three movies I already mentioned plus the Englishman who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain, Notting Hill, a Very English Scandal.

Love the guy but I only nominate him for Four Weddings and a Funeral. He comes close for Florence Foster Jenkins, About a Boy and Sense and Sensibility, and I also really enjoy him in Notting Hill and Maurice.

Huge fan of his work. In his Richard Curtis-scripted rom-coms, he basically created a distinctive, unique persona (except for "Bridget Jones" where he decided to play the cad) for the genre. He played a similar variation of the character in some of his popular, best-known films, which I think hurt his image as an actor in a case that some thought he's not capable of doing more. but not only his work in those films were more impressive than people give him credit for (comic timing is amazing and always compelling) but he's very versatile and even after "Four Weddings" success, he kept on taking different kinds of projects as much as he could ("An Awfully Big Adventure", "Restoration", "Extreme Measures") and he's got a pretty solid auteur resume: Ang Lee, James Ivory, Roman Polanski, Ken Russell, Woody Allen, the Wachowskis... played Chopin, Byron, most recently Jeremy Thorpe...
I give him a win for "About a Boy" (2002) which I think is an excellent role for him to show his both comedic and dramatic talent and it's also a showcase for his movie star charisma. Also nominate him for "Maurice", "Four Weddings", "Florence Foster Jenkins" and "Paddington 2". And maybe for "An Awfully Big Adventure". So glad that he got his interest in acting back in recent years. "A Very English Scandal" was yet another powerful work and I can imagine he'll keep on showing different sides of his talent from now on.

Have you seen Music & Lyrics? I haven't since release but really liked it at the time and still listen to the soundtrack regularly. He was really fun as the washed up pop idol.
I nod him for About & Boy and Paddington 2. Also really like him in Cloud Atlas.

None, but I think the guy is charm incarnate. One of these days, he's sure to break through for me.

One of my favourites who I've adored since seeing him in Maurice many years ago and who still doesn't get enough credit. Incidentally, he's always so entertaining and witty when he's interviewed on chat shows, especially The Graham Norton Show.
Best Supporting Actor - Maurice Best Actor - Four Weddings and a Funeral Best Supporting Actor - An Awfully Big Adventure Best Supporting Actor - Small Time Crooks Best Supporting Actor - Florence Foster Jenkins Best Supporting Actor - Paddington 2

Four Weddings and a Funeral About a Boy
The guy has a load of talent, and truly has a ticket to my funny bone. He's certainly more suited towards comedy, but he definitely has some dramatic heft to his better performances.

I'm a big fan.
1987: Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Maurice 1994: Best Actor in a Leading Role, Four Weddings and a Funeral 1999: Best Actor in a Leading Role, Notting Hill 2003: Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Love Actually 2016: Best Actor in a Leading Role, Florence Foster Jenkins
No wins, though... I think the closest he is to being my win is for Notting Hill and Maurice, where he's 3rd in my lineup. He also makes my top 10 for About a Boy.
I still need to see Paddington 2.

Curious... With Darren Criss out of the conversation, do you guys think Grant has a shot at the Emmy? Mattsby pacinoyes He deserves it but I don't think he'll win.... missing Limited Series, aired too long ago, not immediate and in the "must see" convo as When They See Us which I think'll win the big one and then Jharrel Jerome as its acting win, though they seem to love Fosse/Verdon too and voters might go all in on Michelle Williams/Rockwell . Wishaw in his category is a better bet.

Curious... With Darren Criss out of the conversation, do you guys think Grant has a shot at the Emmy? Mattsby pacinoyes Slim shot but possible - they left out 2 previous winners this year Cumberbatch the worlds leading TV actor imo (I think he was eligible and he always gets in) and Hopkins' Lear so the category is a little odd to me from what I was expecting but he's possible because he's the odd man out of the nominees in terms of himself (English) and project type. I expected 1 of these guys or two even to get snubbed but now that they're in they could win - heck Jharrel Jerome now that he got in looks somewhat favorite-ish even (though maybe not the leading contender per se)

He has come close once or twice and I'm generally fond of the guy, but no nominations.

Usually always like him in comedies and he has much charme indeed. Love him in "About a Boy", but that year is way too strong in Best Actor to make my line-up. He would be in my Top 10 though and that's already saying a lot. So the sole nod he gets from me is:
2003, Best Supporting Actor: Love Actually

Unfortunately, I believe Jared Harris is a lock. Which is actually the right thing to do, imo. He truly deserves this.

I think my only real nomination for him would be Paddington 2, in which he legitimately should have been Oscar nominated for as it’s a comedic performance on par with the best of the decade. I always love Hugh Grant, but he never makes it into my bigger lineups. Maybe for Four Weddings. I did love him in FFJ where he’s definitely Lead despite how he campaigned but I can’t fit him in even a top 10 for that year.
