Looks good.........on the other hand there are about 8 shots in that trailer I could mix up in a blender of "overcoming grief in adolescence tales" or in the "white family overcoming something or other" blender and I just can't help feeling its primary reason to exist is to be really really good for my corrupted, cynical soul rather than you know just actually being a genuinely good movie.
13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Telling The Audience Exactly How To Feel and Making Them Like It......

I'm getting tired of Ansel Elgort already, but damn, that kid they got to play his younger self looks so much like him...

That "emerging from the bathtub" shot is so unnecessarily dramatic. Genuinely burst out laughing.

Prettily shot (Deakins, natch) but it looks a bit too sterile for my liking. I’m also getting extreme Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close flashbacks.

I'm thinking of starting a petition for mr. Wright to get his nomination...
Seriously now, the trailer looked interesting. Maybe more dramatic than needed but still ok.

Yeah, I'm loving the colors, but this does have considerable Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close vibes. Hope it turns out better than that did.
I bought the book a couple weeks back, hope to get started on it soon.

yeah I don't know what to think about that trailer. You can really tell it's based on a book, for what that's worth. Some of those lines...yeeeeeah those are book lines. I'm not just getting Extremely Loud vibes, I'm also getting Labor Day and American Pastoral vibes.
But that cinematography really is gorgeous. Had no clue it was Deakins when I watched the trailer but that story checks out because daaamn

Anyone else think “that looks good” but also too...I don’t know, drama-heavy(?) to be that big Oscar contender some are expecting it to be? It may get Wright and or Kidman a Supporting nomination, Adapted Screenplay who knows, but that just didn’t look like a Best Picture contender to me. Maybe in 2009.

No, I can't see this happening...

Thank God for Jeffrey Wright ........I mean poor Jeffrey Wright who seems to actually be acting like a real human being here.
Nicole Kidman.......wait for it.......whispers......again .......and is ........you know .....emotional - fabulous, one of the GOAT - sarcasm, I do like her I really do but how can people not be sick of that routine yet because it is a routine.
Anyway, I look forward to learning important lessons about life from what children go through.
Powerful stuff, 10 nods, what's for lunch......?

Well...that trailer does nothing for me. Sensory overload. It's being marketed like 2000's Oscarbait, with the lush cinematography and self-consciously "prestige" piano score. So I'm officially worried this might be another Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close.
However this first look clip has given me a little bit of hope. Kidman looks absolutely fucking incredible here. Her old lady octave raise and inflections are fantastic (a bit worrying that the lead Ansel Elgort looks out of his depth against Kidman, but that's to be expected. Not all his scenes will be against arguably our greatest working actress).

dear god, it's starting to look like a prestigey Nicholas Sparks movie. Can't. Handle. All. This. Drama.

Still have no idea what this is about (don't know much about the book's story) but between Deakins's cinematography and 'Terrible Love' on the soundtrack, the trailer's got taste!

I have no interest in this film but I've watched the trailers just because it was shot by Roger Deakins.

Only watched when I saw Jango point out the use of The National. This looks like shit but that made it worth two minutes of my time! Listen to The National!
