Eighth Grade just snatched Original Screenplay from Roma and especially Green Book. This is a sizable boost for The Favourite (ruled ineligible by WGA), and Green Book takes a critical hit.

Not too surprising given that the historical, critical and personal backlash against Green Book was all centered around the script and those who wrote it.
I'm glad they avoided Roma, lest they do something silly and get into some Cuaron rewarding frenzy at the Oscars.

Hahaha, Burnham said "Have fun at the Oscars, losers!" in his acceptance speech. Legend.

This is like the Emily Blunt SAG shocker. Green Book is done in as far as Best Picture. It will get a major win with Ali. But the Director snub hurt it. And the screenplay is too controversial

This is actually the perfect scenario. The deserved screenplay wins at WGA and then for the Oscars, The Favourite gets a boost in Screenplay, while Green Book takes a hit in both Screenplay and Picture.

I meant it's a perfect scenario for me.

FUCK YES! amazing screenplay in a pretty fantastic film and I wasn't a fan of Eighth Grade but real talk it's the most deserving one there. The Favourite rises and Green Book is all but dead which is fine with me Although DAMN the adapted race just got crazier. There are three major contenders now and I really like all of them.

So BlacKkKlansman remains winless, Green Book takes a major hit and The Favourite rises (for Screenplay).
The WGA awarding an Oscar snubbee in Original and then passing on the only film that hit *all* the historically significant precursors to instead give their Adapted win to a BP-snubbed indie that's flown under the radar all season is further evidence that this is the wildest race in a long, long time.
Roma: DGA + BAFTA. Green Book: PGA + Comedy Globe. Black Panther: SAG Ensemble. The Favourite: ACE Comedy (plus 7 BAFTAs). Bohemian Rhapsody: Drama Globe + ACE Drama. Eighth Grade: WGA. Can You Ever Forgive Me?: WGA.
ASIB, BlacKkKlansman, Vice: zilch.

Toss the charts out the window, it’s officially anyone’s game... in some categories.

The last WGA winner in either category to not be a Best Picture nominee is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. According to my digging, the last time both WGA winners were not Best Picture nominees was in 1982 (Arthur and Rich and Famous). This is wild.
