How great it is to see Delroy Lindo back in front of Spike Lee's camera ? Dude is a brillant, underrated character actor, love him, especially in X and Clockers, he has a stunning on-screen presence. I expect great things from him in this new Joint. also great in Cider House Rules It's wonderful seeing him back

Even if reviews aren’t quite raves, supporting actor looks like it’s going to be a wasteland and he has a great role here.

Looks good, but just from this not what I was expecting. Not even a real trailer, and it already looks interesting.

Looks good, but just from this not what I was expecting. For all the talk about Spike being a guy who changed cinema with his perspective that's not really true for content - he's far less Charles Burnett than he is Oliver Stone and Sam Fuller - and you can tell by the tone that this looks very classicist/film school in a way - Apocalypse Now, Greed, Treasure of The Sierra Madre, Dirty Dozen, Three Kings - might not look like any of them but you can tell what he'll be evoking just by this......

Yep, those are exactly the films I was thinking of and even the recent Triple Frontier, which drew inspiration from those films too. Not that it means this film will be bad, in fact, I might end up really liking it even more now, but I guess I was just expecting more of a straight up war/drama type of movie and less of a heist type of one. To be fair, maybe I should have read up more on it, so maybe it's my fault.

Delroy Lindo continues to shine in all of the footage so far. I'm still excited to see it, but like last night I'm getting more of an action film vibe from it and with that release date, I'm not totally sure about it outside of Lindo. Although with this year being the way it is, right now I'll still have it as a possibility, but unfortunately other than nominations in BP and BD, I don't think it's going to go all the way especially with Lee having already won in Adapted Screenplay just recently and also being awarded an Honorary Award just a short time before that. Still I think Lindo is definitely one to watch out for to win going from the buzz, and the footage so far.

That's a wonderful but (very) imitative trailer and it looks really good but that doesn't look like a BP winner to my eyes unless it's a really more wide open year than even I think it is......but can't wait to see it and how he balances these elements.

That's a pretty good trailer and yeah Lindo owns the screen. Not totally sold on Chadwick Boseman tho but it's just a trailer. And I didn't recognize Veronica Ngo, she looks very different from everything I've seen her in but I like that look.

One thing that really pops out at me about this is how impressionistic it looks. Spike Lee's always been one to play around with style and cinematic convention, but I think there's an awful lot of potential in cross-cutting time periods with different film stocks and styles.
I really was let down by Miracle at St. Anna overall, but Spike showed he knows how to shoot some wartime sequences, and I think Vietnam will suit his milieu a bit more effectively. The cast looks great from what we see here (Delroy Lindo buzz is always welcome, and I'm hoping Clarke Peters and Isiah "Sheeeeeeeeit" Whitlock, Jr. have some great material to work with), and while I don't know if the Academy will be in a rush to recognize Spike so soon now that he's a bonafide Oscar winner, it looks like a lot of fun.

Spike Lee's always been one to play around with style and cinematic convention, but I think there's an awful lot of potential in cross-cutting time periods with different film stocks and styles. Well remember - his defining characteristic as a filmmaker besides being generally overrated with terrible endings - what isn't that funny? is the montage either overtly or in editing style that evokes a montage which he has elevated to his own specific kind of art form. Tie that into the 60s and drugs it's just ripe for impressionism. But also he's been dying to make his own Natural Born Killers and this fits - but it fits in his style so he's either repeating himself again or defining himself (depending on your POV): In fact he's applying it from Blackkklansman - that cross-cutting approach here and different film stocks and style (the Natural Born Killers thing to address the media/perception) with the video of the Chambers Brothers "Time" is his "movie clips" of Alec Baldwin/Birth of a Nation etc in "Blackkklansman" - his news footage of the war here is his CNN footage from Blackkklansman etc. Repeating..........or...........defining.

I actually think it looks pretty good and I hope Delroy gets his first nomination. And yes I was at the first nomination part. As for the people who don't think it looks Oscar friendly... ummm.. hello.. it is May and it is slim pickens city. This season... all bets are off.
