In general? I love her as an actress and find her quite talented, admire her filmography (back when she tried). I find it hard to hate her. I GET that Goop is nonsense (but honestly I'm blaming the people buying it and giving her a voice more than Paltrow herself) and sure, some of the off-base/out-of-touch comments she's made are like . But her personality in interviews/talks is just so grounded and charming... I find it hard to reconcile that with the crap she's out here selling and espousing for her business. Anyone else?

I spend a little bit of time working around rich people. They can be clueless and out of touch to a laughable degree. But most of them are very kind, generous, pleasant people. In my experience. Paltrow strikes me as a typical rich person. She seems to be a kind woman and seems like she's enjoyable to be around. She also seems to be a bit of a space cadet at times, but we all have our flaws. I don't understand the hate.

She hot.
I would so eat cheese from a tin with her on her rooftop patio by her personal brick pizza oven while we dip our feet in a rose water bath and sip our Dom.

I don't mind her but as an actress she was extremely mannered and affected - she was hard to love for my taste, but she was fine. Except in roles which took her out of herself - The Talented Mr. Ripley and Hard Eight - in the first you might argue that "fits" her, but the intrigue around her does not and Hard Eight she was perfectly cast against type.
In those 2 roles - the last time you see her on screen she's barely holding it together - as if she can't take it when things don't go her way and it was a whole world she should have explored more. She did try a bit (Two Lovers) but not like those two - she's really on to something there between privilege and desperation and the two worlds in between.

I think she's a very good actress, one that unfortunately failed to explore her own potential. She's not my win in 1998 for Shakespeare (she's somewhere in the lower positions in my yearly top 10), but I don't mind that she won over Blanchett (who went on to win twice after that and surely still has one other victory in her, and Elizabeth is far from her best performance) or Montenegro. She's good and the movie is good.
She had a good run on the 90s, with better movies than Bullock, for instance. And with Royal Tenenbaums, Two Lovers and Proof, she showed an interesting edge and depth. It really sucks that she didn't even seem to bother contacting good filmmakers after that. She's no Blanchett or Swinton, but working regularly with people like Fincher and Wes Anderson (I also think she'd be great in a Noah Baumbach flick), Paltrow could develop a very solid name to herself.
As a person, I don't know... She seems nice. Clueless and sometimes ridiculous when it comes down to her Goop line (what an awful name), but she always comes across as genuinely nice.

A very good actress and in great shape for anyone but especially for a woman who's pushing 50 and had a couple kids.
The hate seems kind of random. She can be mildly annoying and lifestyle brands are silly (but I think she's laughing all the way to the bank on that one) but there are plenty of public figures more deserving of people using their energy to hate them.

I went to a talk James Gray did a month ago and he said she was the most technically gifted actor he'd ever worked with and politely suggested she should stop wasting her time on GOOP.

Oh honey, she's insufferable!
She's only worth befriending to unfriend her... I'm still having nightmares of her coming at me with a steam cleaner.
The early Gwynnie was much better and was good for a while... like with Blannie & Jude in Ripley. Just perfect.
Then she became monstrous... and went totally Goopy.

She has incredible screen presence especially as part of a strong ensemble (Se7en, Hard Eight, The Royal Tenenbaums are all examples), and while she's not exactly the brightest of them all, she's far from the most offensive. I'd take her over the likes of mega-stars like Jolie, Aniston, Roberts or even Bullock.

I always hated her. Since she date Brad Pitt, because I always see her as an opportunist.
Of course Shakespeare in love win, and all the controversy with that, didn't help.
As an actress, is a well trained one, never great, but usually good. I think 2 lovers, the Talented Mr. Ripley and Deadly Relations a TV movie with Robert Urich are her best perfomance.
Probably my favourite is Deadly Relations.-

As an actress, she's very good. Rarely less than competent and an engaging screen presence. I don't think she had the virtuoso talent (or ambition) of her contemporaries like Nicole Kidman or Cate Blanchett to really become one of the greats, but she was a welcome presence in many films at her peak.
As a person, she appears to be completely insufferable and out of touch. The GOOP stuff makes her hard to root for.

She's a lot less preachy than she used to be and therefore she's lot more likeable. She seems to have lightened up a lot in the last few years,I think it finally dawned on her how unlikable she must seem.

I think she's wonderful. She should explore working on stage - you guys know she already has an Oscar and an Emmy. And, OT, but doesn't it seem like she would smell really good?

Yes, I'd love it if she did further stage work. I saw her in Proof many years ago in London and she was spectacularly good.
