Before you all start furiously typing, McAvoy was not in 50/50, that was Joseph Gordon Levitt of course. JGL was pretty phenomenal in that film, and even earned critics praise and a Globe nomination. But originally and for an extended period of time the film was titled I’m with Cancer until McAvoy left for scheduling conflicts with X-Men and was immediately subbed out with JGL. Watching McAvoy on SNL tonight and hearing his American accent got me imagining him in JGL’s role in 50/50 and how complety interchangeable he would have been. He even carries the same vibe as JGL and would have matched with Rogen really well. He also probably would have gotten that Globe nomination too. My main point is that recastings usually can drastically change a film, but this, in an alternate reality, would have felt almost unnoticeably different. I even for a moment had to remind myself that it wasn’t McAvoy in 50/50.

I agree with you. McAvoy would fit the movie/character like a glove, he'd be great even if he'd probably bring the same vibe to the movie as JGL did.

Well since this is the only JGL performance I truly like, I'd hate to begrudge him that... but McAvoy would have been pretty stellar.
Still, you'd have to replace Kendrick for the film to be truly great.

I really love the movie and JLG in it but I agree McAvoy would have likely been just as good and not changed the feel of the movie too much.
