After all, she is a great actress and this is her seventh nomination. Maybe she doesn't deserve it according to this year's performances but she deserves it for her whole career up to now. Maybe that's her final opportunity. And that's the way the Academy often acts. I think the Academy might be thinking along these lines but it's total bullshit. An actress as prestigious as Close has at least one or two nominations left in the bag. Her performance in the forgettable and total non-starter The Wife is even proof that she can get nominated for movies nobody watched or cared for (come to think of it, Albert Nobbs wasn't so popular either). This isn't her last chance, and if she didn't win this year it just means she'd be that much more likely to win next time. This should be Colman's time damnit. 100% agree. Had Close announced her retirement then I can understand but we all know that Sunset BLVD is in the pipeline and that will be a slamdunk. If Close wins for The Wife, I'm going to assume that people voted for it without even watching the dang thing. Seriously.

Seriously. yeah, honestly if anything her winning for The Wife will just ensure that she never wins again let alone get nominated. These overdue narratives hurt more than they help in the long run, and Close doesn't have time to go on hiatus like Leo did.

Think Close has it in the bag at this point.

So excited for Glenn Close. The film itself is totally fine, if unremarkable (really don't understand the hate it's getting here...), but this award is for Close's acting, which is nothing short of extraordinary. This will be an excellent winning performance.

I love that she's in such a strong position now that even the inevitable loss at the BAFTA's next weekend won't impact on her.

I think Close will win BAFTA, too. I think it's very likely that she wins there. It's like 50/50 between her and Colman.

I'm very tempted to predict her for BAFTA too. When there's a very clear frontrunner, they haven't strayed from that very often. I thought Lesley Manville could win last year but they still chose Allison Janney.

I thought Lesley Manville could win last year but they still chose Allison Janney. Similarly, in 2015 I felt confident that they would award Saoirse Ronan Best Actress for Brooklyn, but they still went with Larson... The Wife was primarily financed in Britain and was partially filmed there, and the ensemble is made of mostly British actors (Pryce, Irons, Harry Lloyd, etc.). This might give Close an advantage with BAFTA that other American frontrunners didn't have.

I was holding out for SAG (if Colman won there, that'd be a clear sign of undeniable support for her performance and would make her Oscar victory a certainty, and if Gaga pulled off the upset... that surely would've been something), and now that the results are in, Close is clearly in the lead.
I don't think Colman is locked for the BAFTA, though. I wouldn't be surprised if they went crazy for The Favourite (including a Weisz win) but threw Close a bone instead. Both results are plausible to me. If Close wins there, the race is done; if they go with Colman, there's still a chance she could prevail at the Oscars, but even then I think Close's narrative would give her the edge.

The BAFTA will seal the deal for Close.
Her only potential hurdle is that she's the solo nominee for the film. In recent years, we had Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, and Jessica Lange winning and that's it.
Regardless of what happens at the BAFTAs, Close will be my prediction. Colman or Gaga winning would REDUCE her odds, but still be the favorite or should I say "favourite".

Unfortunately this race is done and dusted and Close has it in the bag. It's a shame too, as unless Melissa McCarthy turns out to be really poor in her film, Close will be my least favourite of the nominees, even over Lady Gaga. I'd have liked her first win to be for better work. I think even Albert Nobbs would have been a better win than this will be.

I think Glenn Close will win, and if she doesn't then Lady Gaga will take it. But I am predicting a Glenn Close victory.
