The Best 1. Paul Schrader 2. Joel & Ethan Coen 3. Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira 4. Willem Dafoe
Haven’t seen Cold War but I like seeing its Director and Cinematography nods.
The Worst 1. Bohemian Rhapsody in Editing 2. Bohemian Rhapsody in Sound Editing 3. Sam Rockwell 4. A Star is Born’s screenplay 5. BlacKkKlansman’s score
Best Snubs 1. Peter Farrelly, Bradley Cooper in Director 2. Every goddamn category that Bohemian Rhapsody missed 3. Chalamet 4. Black Panther’s visual effects
Worst Snubs 1. Da Hawke 2. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Like, wtf 3. First Man in Editing, Score 4. Thom Yorke’s “Suspirium” 5. Beale Street for Best Picture — I had hope!
Leaving off anything that was 100% expected because let’s not exhaust ourselves here.

FAVO(U)RITE: - Buster Scruggs in all three of its categories!!! - Schrader! - No Black Panther in VFX - Pawlikowski! - Dafoe! (haven't seen the film but still happy for him) - Never Look Away for Cinematography simply because of the sheer randomness of it and because I quite like Zooey's dad
LEAST: - Green Book for Editing (any Academy member who voted for it over First Man needs to be thrown off a rock) - 'I'll Fight' for Best Song (I like Warren but this is a damn boring song in a pretty strong lineup) - The First Man snubs, all of them - Cinematography, Score (WTF), Editing, Foy. - The Emily Blunt snub.

LEAST FAVO(U)RITE: * No "Suspirium." * Glenn Close. * Paul Schrader. * Vice in Director.

Bohemian Rhapsody getting anything was my least favorite and then most of Green Book’s nods. Hawke missing is just painful. Happy for Dafoe though.

Honestly, there's so many I'm happy about today.
Favorites: - I'm thrilled that Yalitza made it in! She's gotta be shell shocked! And Marina too! So great. - All the love for The Favourite - Spike getting his first directing nom. Love that Driver made it in, too. - BUSTER SCRUGGS for screenplay!!! - Kendrick nominated for on Oscar
Least favorites: - The Vice love is ridiculous. Bale is the only one that deserved a nomination. - Fucking Bohemian and Green Book, but that was expected.
Best Snub: - Green Book for Director. Really hurts it.
Worst snub: - Washington missing out of Best Actor. Really the only big disappointment this morning.
All in all I'm pretty happy. Go get it, Roma!

Best Anything that The Favourite was nominated for, as it deserves them all. Lanthimos for Director is a particular case of "it's about damn time".
The two sound nominations for Roma, as well as the Yalitza Aparicio. If Collette was never getting in, then I'm glad she got in instead. Mary Poppins Returns for Production Design & Costume Design
"When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings" in Song.
Worst Anything A Star Is Born is nominated for. The Paul Schrader nomination. I hate that film, and the screenplay bugs me no end. Bohemian Rhapsody in Editing.

Lots of inspired nominations today:
Cold War in Director - two foreign movies in Director, this only happened once before (1976) The iconoclastic First Reformed in Screenplay The idiosyncratic Buster Scruggs in Adapted Screenplay The always terrific Willem Dafoe in a weird little film Yalitza Aparicio
The directors, writers and cinematographers were on fire this year.

can I also say how much I love that Dafoe earns the sole nomination for his film twice in a row. What a badass.
Favourite: Lanthimos Colman and her bitches Pawlikowski Schrader Buster Scruggs coming out of nowhere and stealing three noms Dafoe Caleb Deschanel for the insanity of it. Name recognition is firing on all cylinders this year
Least Favourite: every single nomination for Vice barring makeup ditto for Green Book barring Ali Black Panther's production design Roma for screenplay (what screenplay??) "I'll Fight" (i don't hate it, but it's one of the most boring tracks in contention)
Best snub: Farrelly Coogler Black Panther for editing and VFX
Worst snub: (a lot) Hawke & Washington Burning Thomasin McKenzie (she was a long shot but not nearly as much as Tavira) Granik's adapted screenplay Cold War in BP (Foxcatcher 2.0) First Man's techs, especially score and editing "Girl in the Movies" MI: Fallout's techs
and can I also add that I continue to be annoyed by the Academy restricting makeup/hairstyling to three noms. I haven't researched it so I don't know what the deal is there, but it annoys me every year. Are there not five deserving candidates?? It's so frustrating.

How I feel right now... Just be pleased that it did well with last year's Psifonian Awards, as did Lynne "Better Than All These Fools" Ramsay. And also, check this sweet-ass speech out:

Best: - Pawlikowski! Best direction of the year IMO. If it wasn't for the BAFTA nod, this would've come out of nowhere - other Cold War nods - Marina de Tavira. I'm not crazy about Roma (still good, though), but I really liked her. Easily the MVP - Schrader Worst: - no Hawke - I straight up dislike 6/8 of the BP nominees. There's usually a lot of just ok films, but this year... Yikes
