I watched Partir (Leaving) this afternoon with Kristin Scott Thomas, set in the south of France and Spain - I can't recommend it outside of her stunning César-nominated performance, but what struck me most outside of her work was the lovely, sun-dappled cinematography.
Are there any films that you'd describe this way?

Tabu Claire's Knee Walkabout (disturbing but beautiful) A Sunday in the Country Wild Reeds Y tu mamá también I Am Love Call Me By Your Name

Well Call Me By Your Name is one also.......I often talk about my beloved Fiorile, which couches some scenes in bright shimmering sunlight - to contrast the dark events - noticeably in the great passage set in the 40s - a real dazzling set piece.
The Taviani's in general were masters of this in general and always use light creatively - in Padre Padrone, a great, heartbreaking film that examines the wall between a sensitive son and brutish father, there are some stunning scenes of sunlit shafts of light that play as rays of hope (in their later masterpiece Night Of The Shooting Stars, this style is used in reverse, at night - again, it's a dazzling effect).
Not a fave movie but Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty has this shimmering quality also .......

Last Summer ('69) is completely sun-drenched
Summer of '42 has a bloomy coastal postcard look to it

Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources and A Good Year. People need to make more movies in Provence.
Call Me By Your Name is also a very good one.

I would describe that way almost every film set in southern Italy . Respiro and I'm Not Scared immediately come to mind.

American Honey’s use of natural light was unimpeachable.

American Honey’s use of natural light was unimpeachable. Was just about to say this. One of the most beautiful films of the decade.
