Green Book winning PGA just means we don't know what's winning at this point. Roma winning would have ended the conversation. This feels more like The Big Short. Green Book isn't winning DGA. It's not even nominated for SAG and I doubt it wins BAFTA without a directing nod. We could have different winners at each ceremony. Blackkklansman can still win SAG and BP a la Spotlight. I think we’ll get a better picture in nominations morning. If Green Book misses directing and maybe another important nod than things becomes a lot more murkier.

Cuaron: Makes a towering achievement in cinema, ripe for the times, crafted with sheer filmmaking brilliance
Voters: You know what I liked? The one where the white guy makes the black guy eat fried chicken!

I hope you're right. I'm going to use my jinxing power by predicting Bohemian Rhapsody to win SAG Ensemble because that's the worst case scenario for me, and it seems if I don't predict the worse case to happen this year (Best Drama and Screenplay Globe winners, PGA winner), it ends up coming true.

............Green Book?
If the Academy actually gives this movie Best Picture I don't even know which backlash will be louder: the masses rooting for Black Panther/A Star is Born/Bohemian Rhapsody or the movie nerds rooting for Roma/The Favourite/BlacKkKlansman. The next day, every movie critique site will mention Crash and Driving Miss Daisy in its recap/hot take article, which will range between shitting on Green Book for being shockingly racially problematic for today's era and shitting on Green Book for being almost comically inept in its craft everywhere but the performances. And everyone else will be tweeting #whatthefuckisGreenBook? Mahershala Ali is genuinely wonderful in the film, I'll give it that. But still... Green Book.

I don’t know what’s worse. Green Book winning PGA, which makes it one of the worst PGA winners ever, or the fact that Green Book wasn’t even the worst PGA nominee this year considering Crazy Rich Asians and Bohemian Rhapsody were also nominated.
If it wins Best Picture at the Oscars, it’ll go down as the worst winner since Crash.

In the poll here 9 people picked Blackkklansman and 0 picked Bohemian Rhapsody which makes me wonder if people are living in the real world or can understand why Producers Guild would never, ever vote like that? Green Book is a fine pick, like I said earlier (I picked it or Roma to flat out win the Oscar - in early October (at least), and trust me, very few were on board with that ), this is a 2 film race and Green Book wouldn't be my pick but I totally get why it would be the pick - its because people always like a good film, with good acting and good intentions. To me, the Academy has saved itself this year unless they self-destruct and muck it up - it's Art (Roma) vs. Populism (Green Book) - that's as it always should be and maybe the mojo is on the side of Art this year ............regardless, last year was the low point with fishstick porn .......this year it's righting the course.

Yes, I know and those old monster movies of the 50s still didn't F*ck the Fish and they also didn't win BP either...........it was a huge mistake to reward that and not just because it sucks (imo). Usually the BP winner is not the best film of the year but it's still a good film and in the context of other good films .........Grinding Nemo, Fondling Nemo whatever you call it was way outside any BP nominees much less winner ever..........it was a B movie........and hey I like B movies in general but it was an embarrassing pick.........

I agree. The Shape of Water was very twee and painted its messages in really broad, tired strokes.
Moonlight was a beautiful winner but it really seemed like people wanted to pick the next most progressive thing after 3BBOEM took heat.
I would be happy with Roma or Green Book frankly. They're both well meaning and we don't have to be snobby and overwoke about Green Books quaint politics.
And yeah, a fishsex movie lol. Part aww a fairy tale and part eww gross

Not only this, but it was a story about outsiders and "being different" and most important it was just directed beautiful with a dreamy touch. It's just a technically all around good film.

Green Book feels like Crash. Almost no one outside of Hollywood seems passionate for it. I mean look at the box office. The freaking Upside is going to out gross it in just 2 weeks. Yeah that might’ve had Kevin Hart but Green Book had awards buzz... IDK seems like a random winner to me. Well as I’ve been saying, I don’t know a single person that’s seen Green Book and didn’t love it. There is no dislike for it outside of “film twitter”.

It’s not that surprising that Green Book would win here. Of course it’s something that a bunch of older white male businessmen are gonna like. It seems unlikely the Academy would take to it in the same way — the people who have been around for 30+ years may vote for it, but the younger crowd? It’s hard to say. I don’t know the taste of the Academy too well or how showbizz people have felt about Green Book, but I’m sure there’s a significant portion of the Academy for which the backlash against the film won’t be ignored. I still maintain that something as apparently divisive as Green Book cannot win under the preferential balloting system, especially against something more universally embraced like Roma or BlacKkKlansman, but, again, I don’t know the mind of the Academy, so maybe it’s not as controversial to them as it is to film critics and cinephiles.

BlacKkKlansman ending is very anti Trump which hence is divisive. Roma left people cold and it's a foreign film. Not everyone connected with it.

The PGA IS a preferential ballot though so it definitely can win one.

I’d be shocked if more that 2% of the Academy take issue with Green Book.
