I honestly love that Crazy Rich Asians win. Sure, The Favourite is the better film (but only barely), but they made a more inspired choice — Crazy Rich Asiains deserves the recognition especially as it’s more of a *true* comedy.

Except that the speech was imbecilic. A white woman going on and on about representation on behalf of Crazy Rich Asians is about as Hollywood as it gets.

I muted her in the end. She kept going on and on about white men blahblahblah. It was hard to listen.

If you ever need proof of BFCA's utter uselessness, look no further than this. Can't agree on a Best Actress frontrunner? Fuck it, let's give all three of 'em a prize.

Roma about to become the first foreign language winner of all-time. If it wins PGA next week, game over...

I guess it is hard for me to believe a movie with no box office is going to win best picture. Just wrong.

Colman, Close and Gaga all left the show with prizes of their own. Thank God we didn't expect the BFCA to clear the race up.

Why would these "clear up" the race when these peeps aren't a subsection of Oscar Voters?

Netflix is a whole different ballgame, though, so the usual BO yardsticks don't apply here. This is the first time a streaming platform with a day-and-date strategy has a serious BP frontrunner in their hands, so we have no precedent to resort to. Also, we may have no way of knowing for sure how much money Roma is making theatrically, but we do know that everybody has access to it and that enough voters are watching it. That more than makes up for it.

Goddamit, A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody finally get adults back into the theaters and they award a Netflix movie? That nobody is even watching from their couches?

Gaga's speech was as insufferable as I imagine, she almost mention her kinder garden teachers and the kid that sat next to her, the italians, the entire nation of italy, lol

If getting people into movie theaters is the criterion we're gonna use to decide award winners, then it's Black Panther that should be sweeping, because that sold a hell of a lot more tickets and had a much greater pop culture impact than both ASIB and BR combined. (It also happens to be a much, much better film than a surface-level, wholly unoriginal melodrama with nothing to say and massive plotting issues, and an embarrassing piece of homophobic garbage that does a great disservice to the memory of the real-life genius it pretends to honor, so yeah.) Awards shows have been throwing prizes at films that "nobody sees" for several years now, and while they're nothing but a fun passtime to bet on and not objective parameters of quality, they generally tend to go with much better projects than what usually gets butts in theaters.

I'm not watching but glancing at it occasionally but man, the second-hand embarrassment when Taye Diggs dressed as Mary Poppins was shaking his ass around Emily Blunt who looked like she just wanted him to evaporate...That shit was tough to watch. Maybe it is better for these shows not to have any hosts. I didn't think that it would be worse than when TJ Miller hosted two times in a row, but I guess they really can go lower. So much cringe during Diggs's skits. Poor Spike Lee having to put up with that nonsense and not winning Adapted Screenplay. At least Emily Blunt's husband won something, and Black Panther and Mission Impossible won stuff since Angela Bassett is connected to both.

Roma should be at least making an impact at home and it isnt..that is the problem.. had it been a hit Netflix would have told us but they haven't but Google Bird Box and articles galore about the number of viewers.
